Had an awful experience here.
I originally bought my wife's wedding ring at a wonderful jeweler more than an hour away from where I currently live. Because of this I figured I'd take it somewhere closer to fix a simple bent prong.
After receiving multiple recommendations from friends and family (none of whom will be returning after seeing the outcome of this ordeal) I brought the ring to Allen Village Jeweler.
Within a few days we got the call that the ring was fixed and the two outer bands were cleaned. The two outer bands were fine and looked clean.
The center band now had a prong that what significantly thicker and was not even touching the center stone as well as what appeared to be a groove ground into the band. The first 3 pictures show how I received the ring after the first "repair."
Mistakes happen. While I wasn't pleased I spoke with them and they took the ring back to work on it more.
When I received the call that the ring was finished I went to pick it up and to my surprise it had gotten even worse!
The ring had 2 prongs soldered together "to make it stronger" with a deep furrow between them as well as pitting in the affected area (Shown in the remaining photos). They insisted that no material had been removed but the entire profile of the ring was asymmetrical (shown in the last photo, the bottom left side now slopes away.
When I showed this to them they wanted to take the ring back for a third time. Since the work was only getting worse I declined and insisted on a refund of the $230 they charged for the "repair".
I was told I had to come back later when a manager was in, which I did. When the manager, Razia, was in I spoke with her and she said she would have to talk to the owner about any kind of refund, offering store credit instead. After insisting on the refund I was told I'd have to come back later after the owner decided if I would get a refund.
A week later, after repeated requests for updates, I was finally asked to come to the store. I was informed that I would only be getting a partial refund of $156 from the original payment of $232 as they were still charging for the cleaning and rhodium plating.
I was surprised to hear that any rhodium plating had been done to any of the bands as that service was not discussed at all and palladium bands should not be rhodium plated as it heavily tarnishes palladium. This jeweler was also told multiple times that the Rings are palladium prior to any work being done.
After leaving the store I went back to the jeweler where the ring was originally made and they did a wonderful job of restoring it. The jeweler even commented that whatever Allen had done to the ring made it very difficult to repair. I also asked if the bands had been rhodium plated and was informed that there did not appear to have been any plating done to the rings as was claimed.
As stated earlier, I'll never be back to this jeweler and those that recommend the place to me have told me they will not be returning either.
I can't understand how any jeweler would be OK with letting a ring leave their store in such a state.

Read moreMy 40 year old, one-of-a-kind ladies watch I bought in Romania was in need of a new battery. Since I'm new to Dallas, I hadn't a clue as to which jewelry store I should go to. Through the luck-of-the-draw, I was going to take my watch to Allen Village Jewelers. Now I've had some jewelers over the years who did not even work on my watch so I braced myself to hear those dreaded words, "Sorry Ma'am we don't work on watches like yours." So when I walked into Allen Village Jewelers, the whole attitude of this jewelry store was inviting. I brought out my antique watch and the jeweler mentioned that this watch was at least 40 years old, and it might be to the point in time when I gave it up and opt for a newer one. I said that no, this watch is filled with memories and so he knew getting a new watch wasn't the way to go for me. He assured me then that besides the battery, it could also be "prettied-up, That was when $ signs started to dance before my eyes, but I knew that no matter what the cost of a new battery and then a good cleaning, I would do anything to keep this watch. After a couple of weeks, I received a call from Allen Village Jewelers informing me that my watch was ready to be picked up. So first thing this morning I went to pick up and pay for my watch and I was beginning to wonder if it would be worth all the money I just knew he was going to charge me. He brought my very special watch out for me to see and WOW! This watch looks brand new! And it was actually keeping the correct time! As my left arm was being adorned with my good-as-new time piece, he spoke up and said that with tax, it came to a grand total of $47 and some change. All in all, I have made Allen Village Jewelers my "go-to" jewelry store and will most definitely encourage friends and family members to go to Allen Village Jewelers for all their jewelry needs! Over all, the customer service was excellent their attention to detail on my watch was outstanding. I will be back and I will be telling everyone about my more than nice experience at Allen Village...

Original Review:
I have had a terrible experience at Allen Village Jewelers every time I go, but this was the final nail in the coffin for me on this location. Absolutely terrible customer service, tense interactions, and active degradation. I brought in 5 grams of 10k scrap gold, expecting a fair offer based on the current gold prices. Instead, they offered me an insulting $60—less than 50% of the melt value. When I questioned the price, the woman tried to justify it by saying, “When we melt it, it might not be pure gold, it could be a mix of metals.” No kidding—that’s literally what 10k gold means!
To make matters worse, she doubled down on the lowball offer by patronizing me with, “You know everything you see on the internet isn’t true.” For context, reputable gold buyers typically take a 20-30% margin to cover refining costs and profit. Even with that margin, their offer was absurdly low. Drove literally 5 minutes down the road and the guy gave me $125 on the spot.

If you’re dealing with a less-than-reputable gold dealer, they might offer as little as thirty to fifty percent of the actual value of your gold.
For five grams of ten-carat gold, its value depends on the current gold price. Ten-carat gold is about forty-two percent pure gold, so the calculation would roughly be:
(Gold spot price per gram) × 0.42 × 5 grams.
Let’s say the gold spot price is $60 per gram. That would make your gold worth about $126 in pure value. A scummy dealer might offer you as low as $40-$60. Always compare offers to avoid getting lowballed!
I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for an honest transaction. Do your research and go somewhere reputable before selling your gold. Allen Village Jewelers clearly preys on people they think don’t...
