I love half price books, I love to read, and I love to spend money on books. Unfortunately I won’t be returning to this location. I was here today (2/19) and was treated like a nuisance at the buy counter and I don’t know why. I know customer service isn’t easy, but I felt unwelcome and immediately that I was in the wrong place. The woman asked for my ID and I gave it to her and I said “I have more in my car,” (I was alone and unfortunately it was a handful) I was met with a an eye roll, and as I moved quickly to leave for my car she said “You’re not going to want to leave your ID here,” to which I said, “Oh, you just asked for it?” Another eye roll, “I can help you once all of your items are here.” Once I brought in the remaining items I waited patiently by the counter until she said “…well?” Referring to my ID, which I was waiting for her to ask for as she looked busy and I had brought mine out too soon earlier. I had brought in a record player and she was immediately skeptical that it was in working order (it was, but I understand there are reasons not to take items, that’s not why I’m writing this) and I just said “I can just go to another location if need be.” She made a face and said “No..?”
After our transaction was complete I said “I’m sorry for whatever I may have done to you, but you have not been kind,” and another eyeroll from her before saying “I was not rude to you?” She was visibly frustrated with me the entire time and I was so shaken that I left the store in tears. I understand that customer service isn’t a fun job, but this interaction genuinely upset me and deterred me...
Read moreWent there today to sell almost 20 DVDs, a couple of books tossed in, and they said they would be a while because there were a few people before us. We browsed the store for not even five minutes and hear our name over the intercom. The lady offered us $14, which is a HUGE rip off. The majority of the DVDs they have the same type there (Wrestling) that we know they sell for $9.99+ because my husband has bought several, and they are a huge seller there. I told the lady that's ridiculous because we both know they'll sell them for that price and up, especially the box sellers, and she had the nerve to give me an attitude and be rude. You're supposed to be a professional, how awful how they treat their customers. I know a while back, my mom had sold them over 96 CDS and they lowballed her with an offer of $13, for popular cds?! Like Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Prince, etc. Needless to say she took them home and sold them at a yard sale for $5 a piece, when they would have priced them higher than that for one cd. NEVER SELL YOUR ITEMS HERE!! It may be a good place to shop for books, on some dvds, other things are way overpriced. Be wise in choosing what...
Read moreLove bookstores but hate paying full price for books? Then half price books is the store for you. I personally wish they had a slightly larger fantasy section, but I don't think I could ever find a large enough fantasy section to satisfy me 🤣 The kids section is fantastic and well stocked. I love to browse the gardening and cooking sections as well. Everything is well marked so it's easy to find the section you're looking for. They are also doing a fantastic job during the pandemic to keep customers safe from frequently cleaning the counters at check out to enforcing masks to having signs asking for one person in the bathroom at a time. It's nice to know that they take customer and employee safety seriously (unlike some businesses). The employees have always been extremely polite and helpful, and the one time I brought my young child with me to pick out Christmas presents for her sibling and dad, they were really helpful and engaging with her. I've noticed several of the employees seem to really love kids and be great at talking with them at their level which is always a...
