My 4-star rating falls short of what I really think about them but giving them a perfect 5-star rating was just a little too much based on my first impression. You order when you enter and then find a table and wait for them to deliver your food. It was a little cray-cray in there today, possibly because of spring break, or Easter weekend, or people just finding a good place to eat in the Florence-Union area and making the most of it. I had to hunt down two different employees to ask if they would clean my table and the 2nd person did but I had to run over to the napkin dispenser and grab a handful of napkins in order to wipe up the residual dampness he left behind. We also notice that they left off an item we had ordered so my son and wife jumped back in line to place a 2nd order. I was a bit concerned at this point but chalked it all up to their newness.
The good news is our food was VERY delicious! I had the Five & Dime which consists of fried chicken strips, pecan wood smoked bacon strips, cheddar cheese and a fried egg on top of a biscuit with house-made sausage gravy. It was absolutely delicious!
One of my pet peeves with sausage gravy is the lack of taste and spice. This sausage gravy made the cut for me - flavorful with a nice kiss of spice! The chicken strips were the same way - very well cook with a touch of spice to them and a nice crispy finish. The smoked bacon was delicious, but the egg was cooked a little to hard for me to award it top-grade. I like the yolk to be runny, but I will say that the egg was properly seasoned!
My son had BAM! Yo Yo which consisted of an asiago-bacon waffle, the same chicken strips as those on my sandwich, and Bissell Family Farm maple syrup and flavored butter. He has a very sensitive pallet and can pick just about every ingredient out in a dish but was having a hard time locating the asiago. He did notice it halfway through and to be honest, I think if it was any more prevalent than it was, it would have been too much. So hats off to them for striking a good balance! The waffle had the right about of crispiness on the outside and nice and soft inside and the maple syrup topped the dish off nicely. Definitely a very good chicken and waffle meal!
My wife had the Sticky Maple which consisted of the Bissell Family maple syrup over chicken strips and pecan wood smoked bacon. A hit for her too. She also ordered a glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice and said it was delicious (the color of the juice said the same).
All in all a very good meal and one that will cause us to return and sample other items...
Read moreI went to the Florence KY location for the first time about a month ago. The food there was absolutely amazing! It was the best biscuits and gravy I’ve ever had. I went on to tell everyone I knew how great it was and about a week later I took my best friend there. The cashier spoke so quietly that you literally heard nothing she said. I actually had watched all the people ordering ahead of my ask her to repeat everything she said. I ordered first, then my wife and then my friend. We then sat down and after 40 plus minutes the food arrived for my wife, another 10 minutes my friends order arrived however my order didn’t (I ordered first by the way). Another 10 minutes passed and I went to counter to inquire about my order. The manager seemed annoyed that I was even talking to her. I went over what I ordered and eventually the food arrived. No apology given. About 2 weeks later a friend from VA came to visit so I took him, my wife, my friend from the prior visit and his father. This time I ordered for the group so we could eat together to avoid the prior issue. We waited for about 45 minutes and the food arrived all except mine. About 5 minutes later they brought a plate to our table however it was not what I ordered. It was biscuits and gravy with an egg on top. I ordered the retro plate. I went to the counter and explained it was incorrect and went back to my seat. The manager then came over with a copy of the receipt and said “look here you ordered extreme biscuits and gravy”. I told her that I certainly did not as I have only been here 3 times and ordered the same thing as before. She seemed irritated at me like I was lying or something. Despite me telling everyone I know how great the food is it comes with a cost. The wait times are insane for a place that has such a small core menu. Make sure you order as a group if you’re planning to eat together or your party will watch each other eat their entire meal before their order arrives. Last but certainly most important KEEP your recipe and look it over to make sure it’s what you ordered or the manager will treat you like a scam artist.
The food is amazing however the service with be its downfall as most people don’t want to wait an hour for an egg...
Read moreI’ve had two very different experiences with this restaurant — one solid, one frustrating — which averages out to mediocre at best.
My first visit was a takeout order of breakfast tacos that were pretty tasty. Based on that, I was hopeful for a good dine-in experience when I stopped by again recently with my mom for a late breakfast.
This is a counter-service spot where you order at the register, grab a number, and seat yourself while they bring the food out. We arrived around 10 AM and it was packed. Despite the crowd, the line moved quickly, but that’s where the efficiency ended.
Most of the open tables were dirty, so we had to clean one ourselves with napkins. Not ideal. Then came the confusion around drinks. We never received cups after ordering — despite asking three separate times. First, we were told the cups would come out with our food. When they didn’t, we asked the food runner, who said he’d check on it but just disappeared into the kitchen. Finally, we had to go back to the counter a third time just to get cups for the fountain machine. That’s a lot of back and forth for something basic.
When the food finally arrived, it was lukewarm at best. I ordered two bacon breakfast tacos and a side of smashed potatoes. The tortillas were so hard they were practically inedible — I ended up tearing pieces off and eating just the egg, bacon, and cheese filling. The potatoes were bland and also cold, like they’d been sitting out too long.
It’s disappointing because my first experience was solid. I’m hoping this was just an off day, but for nearly $40, this meal didn’t feel worth it. The staff seemed overwhelmed and stretched thin, with just a handful of employees trying to juggle too many tasks during a rush. Cleanliness, service, and food temperature all suffered as a result.
For now, this location won’t be high on my list to return to. There are better breakfast spots in town that don’t come with this...
