They do not even deserve 1 star!!! This is the worst place someone can bury someone. They are such tight wads that they don't have the normal equipment to lower the casket to the ground! They had the graveside service setup on a different spot than where the plot was then the Paul bearers carried the casket across the drive to where the plot was and they had to set it on the ground. Then to top it off the grave had not even been dug yet, so the out burial container was sitting on the ground also. The guys begin to dig the dirt up then with the same tractor they put a chain on the outer burial container and put it in the ground then they put a chain around the 4 corners of the casket and lift it again with the same tractor! Unbelievable. The immediate family was shocked with what was taking place and left. They couldn't watch all that! Then one the owners brother shows up in shorts t-shirt and a baseball cap to see where they are digging. I spoke with him and told him I was going to report this as this was unethical. There was no empathy for the family whatsoever. The family is grieving their loss and then to watch this was so unprofessional. These owners need to be reported and shut down. They won't even I vest in the proper equipment that all the other cemeteries use that looks like a frame around the opening that should prevent what he said, "the graves are made out of sand and they gave in that's why we don't dig them up before", REALLY, if you would invest in the proper equipment you wouldn't be worrying...
Read moreIn spite of this cemetery containing the graves of over 100 victims of the Great Storm of 1900, as well as several other historical figures, it is in a sad state. Headstones have fallen and/or are broken. The roof of one of the magnificent mausoleums has collapsed. The doors to other mausoleums are closed very amateurishly by sloppily applied cement. There is a stack of concrete vaults sitting near the entrance, and a disturbing pile of headstones clustered together in what looks like a storage area, but are in plain sight. I wonder why the families of those buried here put up with it...I would have a lawsuit going against the owners (I understand this cemetery is privately owned). It contrasts most unfavorably with the cemeteries on Broadway that are cared for by churches and by the city. Galveston should be ashamed of letting this sad...
Read moreWe talked to man who was on the property in a trailer. He looked through a lot of index cards and found the gravesite for my Great Grandfather who was buried there. There was no stone, however, a broken stone was propped up by another stone and it was of my 2 yr old great aunt. The stone had the names of my great grandparents. It was pitiful. We came back a second time to try and find "something" and the trailer was gone and the little gravestone was gone. There is no one to ask about it on the property. It is a pity the city doesn't do something to honor those that are...
