II was planning on doing some hiking in the mountains and I was told to go by this store by multiple people in town. I was not disappointed for sure. The shop in The Village has a welcoming, rustic charm that makes you feel excited for the trails. The staff is incredibly helpful if you are a novice and unsure about the gear needed. Staff members take the time to ask about planned hikes and experience levels. They then provide recommendations based on actual needs, not just the most expensive items. You might find a great new daypack, some high-quality wool socks (a game-changer!), and a detailed map of the park. They might also point out beginner-friendly trails nearby. It's clear that the staff are genuine enthusiasts of the mountains. Their knowledge and willingness to share can make you feel confident and well-prepared. Day Hiker is more than just a gear shop; it's a resource that equips you with the gear and knowledge for a safe and enjoyable trip. Returning to browse is a definite...
Read moreThe Owner of this store happens to be my nephew and anyone who accuses him of hating kids doesn't have a clue of what their talking about. Joe and Maria have been in business for 17 years and are two of the most cordial people I know. And not because he is my nephew! If he corrected a child it was because that child was probably running wild in the store unsupervised by his or her parent. This is a small building and kids need to be under control or they could get hurt. Just like you wouldn't let your pet run wild in a store, you shouldn't let your kids either. If you ever saw Joe with his grandson you would know that he is kind and loving toward children. Remember you are not doing your children any favors by condoning bad behavior at home or in a...
Read moreWe really liked this shop. I feel like it was made just for us. My fiancé and I love to hike, but we are building up to it. I feel like this shop has what beginners and experienced day hikers need. Staff is really friendly - I could have talked to the woman that was working there all day. I bought a book about the strange disappearances on the Appalachian Trial and the shop gal and I bonded over the eeriness and the odd interest we both have in it. I could have chatted with...
