My father and I stayed here for a few days from July 27th to August 1st.
The Positives: The room was spacious and when we came in the first night was very clean.
The view for the mountain side was beautiful and just gorgeous to wake up to in the morning.
The breakfast was very delicious, and the service was very good on making sure they were stocked and fresh.
The area is wonderful for walking around to see the many great attractions for Gatlinburg. It's right next to the aquarium, just a block down from that is a lift to the mountains and there are a lot of cute shops around the area.
The hotel has a very family friendly vibe to it as well. There were a lot of very nice people that we met.
The rooms provide amenities like shampoo, conditioner, soap, towels of many sizes, a refrigerator, microwave, iron with ironing board, blow dryer, coffee (though my father did not care for the taste) and vending machines and ice right in the hallway. The only other thing I wish we did have was a safe due to my father having a laptop and didn't feel safe just leaving it out.
The Negatives: My father and I were running late due to traffic, and I called to just let the lady at the front desk know that we would be checking in later than 10pm. I do have a name, but I wouldn't like to put that as public as she might have just been having a bad day. But she seemed to have an attitude when I called and very politely told her what was going on, she said "well, what do you want me to do about it?" I told her that I just wanted to give a heads up in case we got caught by more traffic and she said "ok, well, do you have a reservation? I'll put late arrival, what time do you expect to get here?" It just seemed a little off putting as we were already bummed about getting to the hotel later than expected.
So, on Saturday, my father and I wanted fresh towels and sheets, so room service came, and they were very nice. My dad even tipped them $20 for their service. I went to bed and woke up to flip the pillow and there was a blood stain on the pillowcase. I checked my face and everything to see if I had bled, but it was not my blood. I've never seen anything like that at a hotel, I was in shock. I also killed a spider in the bathroom and my father killed a cockroach. I won't fault that much on the hotel as we are by the mountains which will have plenty of bugs to deal with.
There seemed to be a plumbing issue as well. We went to go shower and the drain was backed up, our feet were covered in dirty water while showering.
The parking garage is decent enough but does need more space between the pillars, it can be difficult to maneuver at times.
And the pool was a very cool and fun concept. There are 2 hot tubs, a slide and a wall you can swim under to choose if you want to be inside or outside. However, the ledge of the pool is cracked and has black and green color on it. It is definitely due to for an update or cleaning.
Overall, we had an average experience. I love to leave positive reviews and make sure that anyone who deserve praise gets their dues. There was a lady that checked us in at the desk, unfortunately I did not catch her name, she was very kind and smiling.
Would we stay here again? It most likely will be a no just due to the cleanliness issue. The hotel does need some updates. I paid nearly $1000 for 5 days and it wasn't worth it in my opinion. I've stayed in Tennessee hotels for much lesser price and the standards were superb. I really wished I would have loved this hotel more and could give it a high recommendation. Hopefully they give a good...
Read moreEdgewater was a recommended hotel on a Gatlinburg Facebook Vacation page, many saying it was remodeled. There were a lot of 5 star reviews on google. I’m not sure if these people are friends with the owners, or just don’t have high expectations. We only stayed 2 days, and that was pushing it. We found parking to be extremely tight when we arrive (we were expecting this as others reviewed it also), many cars were taking up 2 parking places, but we were lucky enough to find a spot. As we checked in, the lobby was nice and the process went fairly quick. There was a moose convention going on so it was a little crowded.
We had a room on the 6th floor. The elevators are extremely slow (we were anticipating slow elevators as others had reviewed but not this slow). We actually ended up taking the stairs unless we were hauling luggage up and down.
Our mountainside room actually had a view of the garbage cans and a maintenance shed, I’m guessing the employee parking lot, but not the mountainside view we were expecting. The shade over the balcony door was filthy and stained. The paint was piling from the ceilings in many places. There was a small fridge and microwave (both were clean). I checked for bedbugs before we unpacked anything. The beds had bedbug encasements on each of the mattresses and box springs. I couldn’t find any signs, so that was good.
The bathroom was very small. I brought my own cleaning wipes and wiped everything down myself. It appeared to be clean on the toilet, sink and tub. However, there were pieces of toilet paper stuck above in the ceiling tiles. Obviously, someone had put them there to see how long they stayed, so who know how long they had been there. The first night we had good amount of hot water. The second night, we barely had enough to get through 1 shower, that was frustrating. The carpet was a little sketchy, I made sure everyone had socks or flip flops on before the walked on it.
Nighttime was a nightmare. The walls are paper thin, you can actually hear full blown conversations of people next to you. Doors were being slammed all night. The beds are OLD, lumpy, hard springs, no way to get comfortable, everyone tossed and turned all night. Like I said, there is no way we could have stayed after night #2 just out of exhaustion from not getting enough sleep.
We did not use the pool or hot tubs, but it did appear to be a lot smaller than what their website showed but looked clean. We skipped out on the breakfast, as it appear to be low quality. As far as remodeling, I couldn’t find any evidence of that in our stay, unless you count the lobby, and what appeared to be a newer lighted mirror in the bathroom.
I gave this hotel a 2 star only because the bathroom did appear to have been cleaned and the location was in walking distance from everything, and that was being generous. This is more like a $60 hotel, not $150 a night. To give you an idea, we don’t usually stay at the most expensive hotels, usually a Sleep Inn if we can, so our expectations are not set too high but we would like to get what we pay for. Therefore, we would not stay here again in the future, or recommend it to any of our...
Read moreI am a local and I took a small 2 night trip to Gatlinburg to enjoy a much needed break and have a good time with my friends during the second week of December 2022. I wanted to share my honest review of this hotel and if its as handicap friendly as it states on their website. We really did enjoy this hotel in terms of the room and breakfast, but we ran into a really big issue when it came to the pool. I want everyone who is accessible to know that this hotel is great for accommodating most everything you need.
They had a shower chair in our room and was sweet with checkout times. Great front desk clerks and amazing staff. The main issue is we came there because it stated it was handicap accessible and that they had the Pal lift for the pool which would have been amazing if they had charged the battery. The first night there we knew we'd love to enjoy the pool and front desk knew we were going there right after check in. I was so disappointed that they only had 1 battery and it was dead. All they said was it will be ready tomorrow.
I did speak with the front desk and suggested that they added a second battery. Again the pool was the main reason we chose this hotel.
I so badly wanted to give them 5 stars but they didn't provide all they stated on their website. They are not 100% accommodating when it comes to anyone that is handicapped or needs extra help, but they are 80% there. Just making sure that all amenities are available to ALL guests. I don't complain often or write reviews but this one deserves one.
Suggestion to others: Make sure if you need the Pal lift that you call the day of check in and tell them you need the battery charged for your stay. You shouldn't have to call ahead for this but since they have only 1 as of 12/15/22 I suggest it.
The room we stayed in was the queen suite. It was 2 rooms connected by a door. The suite had 2 balconies facing the front of building and river, 2 full bathrooms, 2 mini fridges, 2 microwaves, 2 fireplaces, 2 queen beds, and a pull out sofa. The rooms are a little outdated in terms of the floors and space, but otherwise nice to stay in. As I said above the staff is good and I had called ahead requesting extra blankets and they were there when we went to our room. Highly suggest a queen suite for the room space alone.
Something I also wish they had was a queen suite on the lowest level for safety purposes. For instances IF the elevator is out or there is a fire its really hard to carry someone down 8 flights of stairs. So again if you are planning on staying here check where your room is beforehand to plan exit strategies.
I plan to stay there again in 2023, but will be making that phone call to them the day of for the PAL lift. I hope my next...
