Don't EVER take your business here. My experience with them will speak for itself. I had a loose connection on a security camera receiver. After taking the receiver apart myself I was able to determine one of the soldered joints on the outgoing video feed had come loose so I took it to Eastwind Computers to see if they could merely solder this one connection for me. The woman who greeted me said her technician was at lunch but as soon as he came back she would have him take a look at it and would call me to let me know if he thought he could fix it. I asked for a quote at that time and she told me $10-$15. That was around 2pm. At 4:55, after not hearing back from them, I called to see what was going on and she said he could do the job and that it would be ready the next day. The next day when she called and told my the job was complete, she indicated it would be $30. Double what they originally quoted me. When I questioned her about why the price doubled she told me there were other things he had to fix. I told her I would need to talk to the technician when I picked it up so he could explain exactly what else he did. Her response to me was, I can have him undo it. In shock, I said no, I just want to know what he fixed. She then said nevermind, it will just be $15. When I picked up the receiver, the owner was sitting behind the counter and the woman (later found out she is the office manager) brought out my part and was explaining to him the situation. His response was just as rude as hers. What he said to me was, our technician was just looking out to you, I guess no good deed goes unpunished. Next time I will tell him not to fix it. I paid for my receiver, $15, and left quietly. What I want these people to know is a phone call would have solved all of this. If you tell some one $10-$15 and during the course of the repair know the price is going to double, you should call your customer and say "Its going to be double what we told you, do you still want to do the repair?" You should never just do the work at double the cost and then threaten your customer to "undo" the work when they question you about the price. SHADY, SHADY SHADY. Don' ever go here. Not really sure how they have been in business so long if this is how they...
Read moreI am now the proud owner of a spiffy little laptop that is crazy fast and loaded with memory waiting to be filled! (And oh how I will fill it. I always do.) But this wasn’t my first purchase from Eastwind Computers.
Bryce, their resident genius who, in the name of “great work ethic,” has been known to diagnose computer ills remotely (“remote” as in while in Alaska!) built me a desktop computer a year ago. My first “from scratch” computer! It is a wonder and I was thrilled.
So a month ago, I returned for an updated laptop. My old laptop was clunky and slow and so unlike these lightweight models they have now. But that old laptop was loaded with memories. And I didn’t want to lose a single one. So my request: I wanted a NEW laptop whose contents looked EXACTLY like my old one. And I wasn’t budging.
Enter Michael. What a remarkable mind this man has. Engage Michael in a conversation and you soon realize the extraordinary range of this guy’s expertise. He really understands the MINUTIAE of the tech world! Just absolutely razor sharp. He’s also kind and funny and SO quick-witted. And lucky me. He took on my request. Michael taught me all about hard drives -- their copying, their cloning, their imaging...
So now I sit here writing a review on a new laptop that is faster and sleeker than I ever thought possible. The true beauty, tho, comes when I simply turn the machine on. There’s that beloved picture of a time gone by. A little dog in a pensive pose…
This remarkable laptop is exactly what I wanted. All my old “stuff” in a spiffy 21st century package. Thank you,...
Read moreI went to Eastwind to have my laptop repaired as one of the fans was malfunctioning and making a really loud buzzing noise. I was told that they'd clean out the fan and if need be, replace it. I was given a quote on how much replacing the fan would cost. They did the repair fairly quickly, within a couple days, but when I went to pick up the laptop they lost my power cord. I was given a used cord they had in the store but I returned it and asked for a better one because the one they first handed me was in bad shape with significant wear to the cord that exposed the wires in some places. When I turned my laptop on at home, the fan was still making a loud noise, only not quite as loud as before. It turns out they only cleaned the fan and did not replace it, but cleaning it clearly did not solve the problem, so I paid $90 for basically nothing. I emailed them about this and never got a response. Although the people there were friendly, the service I received was terrible and unprofessional. I will have to go somewhere else to get my laptop properly fixed.
Edit: They called me a few weeks later after reading my negative review and offered a full refund, to replace the fan, and offer me a new power cord. They claimed they never saw my email and I assume that they are telling the truth. They told me that they do not like unhappy customers and I appreciated the fact that they contacted me and wanted to reconcile my less than pleasant experience. I figured my experience must have been something of a fluke. I'm glad to know that Eastwind cares enough about...
