Lawson Station is a souvenir and convenience chain in Waikiki, selling a fairly standard array of gifts and general snacks. What elevates this particular Lawson Station are the truly superb shave ice and snow ice offerings. The ice is soft and finely shaved, and the syrup generously applied, making that first bite so deliciously sweet and melt-in-your-mouth good. For an extra treat, try requesting some vanilla ice cream in the bottom of your shave ice. The snow ices, a more lavish treat, mix flavors with various toppings and sides, like the pictured strawberry-mango snow ice drizzled with condensed milk and with strawberry and mango chunks on the side. Walked in looking forward to trying the shave ice with so many great reviews…only to be refused service. I came in at 10:25pm (store said it closed at 11pm online) and they didn’t greet me nor serve me. Door was wide open but after coming up to the counter and asking if I could buy some shave ice, they then said “aloha, sorry no shave ice, the store is closed”. But then after saying the store is closed, they said they could still sell soft serve…hmmm I thought you just said the store is closed. I can understand if they stop serving shave ice at a certain time…but it is an entirely different thing to not have that written anywhere in store or online, to not be acknowledged at all until asking directly at the counter, and to “close” 35 mins before the listed times with the lights on and doors open. Disappointed...

I’m extremely disappointed with my recent experience, largely due to Walter’s attitude. From the moment we placed our order, he seemed impatient and uninterested in helping us. Instead of being polite or friendly, he made us feel like we were inconveniencing him by simply being there.

The worst part? When he handed me my ice cream, he did so in such a forceful way that it felt completely unnecessary and unprofessional. It’s ice cream, not a rugby ball! The entire interaction left a sour taste in my mouth.

Customer service is a key part of any business, and Walter’s behavior is not what I expect when I’m spending my hard-earned money. I hope management addresses his attitude so no one else has to go through such an...
