The Prickly Pine Café is such a gem in downtown Houghton! The atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and has a unique, nature-inspired vibe that makes you want to stay a while. You can tell the owners put their heart into making it a cozy space for the community.
The coffee is excellent—smooth, flavorful, and they have just about every option you could think of, from classic cappuccinos to fun frappes and specialty drinks. The food is equally impressive. I tried the cheddar biscuits (the jalapeño bacon cheddar is a must!) and they were fresh, hearty, and absolutely delicious. Their mini quiches and egg bites are also perfect if you want something light but filling.
The staff is friendly and attentive, and even when the café gets busy, they make you feel taken care of. It’s no surprise the place has been packed since opening—it’s quickly become a local favorite.

Food is better than it right to be. We got free breakfast at our hotel and kept finding our way here instead. All are made in house as best we can tell. Beagle sandwiches are insanely good. Quiches are wonderful. Biscuits are amazing.
