I love this place because it’s consistently great food, great drinks, great service, and has a dog friendly patio. It’s well known that the bars on Yale St. have a heavy pour and their cocktails are always on point, but not everywhere is dog friendly.
My fave meal here is the Party Melt, a fun take on the patty melt with the crust cut off the bread, the bread grilled with mustard on the outside of the sandwich, a juicy ground beef patty smothered with cheese, grilled onions, and a sauce made from ketchup and mayo. We also got the Hot Dog Sandwich with crusts cut off the bread and hot dogs covered in grilled red onions and Dijon mustard. The hot dogs were grilled a little too long. The French fries were crispy and hot, but could use a little less salt. I love my fries salty, but my wife and I were both brushing off salt to eat them.
I got my two favorite drinks, Long Story Short — a gin based cocktail with passion fruit and a slice of dehydrated lemon, and a Cold Fashioned — a typical old fashioned, but with piloncillo for sweetness, orange peel, and served in a Tom Collins glass with ice. They were perfect for a sunny, but breezy fall day in Houston.
I’ve always sat on the patio or under the awning outside, so I can’t speak to what it’s like inside but there’s a full bar inside and tables you can sit at. The bathrooms are clean with two individual room stalls and they have a QR menu or you can Google it. Better Luck Tomorrow is one of those Houston places that stays on your list of...
Read moreMyself and 3 others visited BLT for the first time last Saturday night. I was looking for a vibey place with food and decent drinks to celebrate my birthday. We arrived and were seated with no problem, but asked to move to another area of the patio with better heat. Once seated at our new table, our new server’s tone immediately changed. The rest of the night she would make snarky comments or act incredibly inconvenienced when we needed something. The majority of our group worked service jobs at some point in time and we’re always respectful and appreciative of waitstaff, so I am unsure what warranted the attitude we received. We ate our food, which is a bit overpriced and tasted average, and decided to move elsewhere in the Heights in an attempt to find a better experience. Definitely the right decision…
Unfortunately, I can’t recommend BLT after our first, only and last visit. Servers have a tough job, especially during the pandemic, but I cannot give any level of grace to someone who treats patrons as pests. I really hope this was a “one-off” evening for Dulce (the name we were given when we asked, because she never introduced herself) and that she’s generally a rockstar server! Also, in a constructive tone, it would be great if BLT had a little more “by the glass” wine selection.
The +2 stars are for the first server we had who graciously moved us to better heated area, and because the “party” melt was delicious although the chicken sandwich was...
Read moreSo I would like to start off by saying that the food and drinks at BLT were amazing. It was a little disappointing that you can’t order from the regular menu during brunch hours but I do understand. I had the Mr. November drink and a Jack Rose. My friend and I ordered a side of fries to split and the order of the chicken and mash potatoes and spaghetti sandwich for brunch. All of the food and drinks again were amazing. However the reason this place is only getting a 3 star review from me was because of our waitress who was extremely rude and unprofessional even mocking my friend at one point!! When we first ordered our food before my friend could order his second drink she walked away. We had to call her back and when she came back she mocked my friend in the process. And when I ordered my second drink which was somewhat off menu (I had asked before if it was possible - if not no worries) she comes back and not even making eye contact just mumbles while walking away “yeah it’s done it’ll be out”. I thought maybe she was having a bad day but I noticed that she frequently checked up on other tables and was so nice to every one else except us. It was extremely disappointing bc the experience with our waitress really took away from BLT itself which had amazing food, drinks, and I thought was a really cute place for brunch. I really hope that if I do decide to come back I don’t get the same waitress because I would just legit leave. It really...
