Common Bond On-The-Go - Heights — Restaurant in Houston

Bakery: Common Bond is a local bakery chain that makes Eurocentric and American baked goods. My personal favorites are their macaroons, their mocha mascarpone, and their chocolate croissant. They are best known for their colorful branding and busy brunch line. The workers are polite, knowledgeable, and patient with their customers. Prices are $$ it’s not cheap but it’s also not expensive.

Environment: cute to-go shop with a small waiting area and about 4 sit down tables. Pastries are displayed in glass case much like other locations. They have a cute baked goods mural on the back wall.

Pros: quick, close to where I live, had a large selection, everything is fresh and tasty

Cons: a bit noisy with the register so close to the back of the house, they are getting used to the new quick service format, tables make it cramped, the other patrons can be exhausting

General feedback from the opening: -May need alternative way to process to go orders during rushes 4 tables chosen for inside restaurant seems space inefficient and crowded (high tops or space saving choices would be better) -the cashier area is very noisy and it’s hard for the cashier and patron to speak especially with the splash guards and masks -needs clearly defined pick up/waiting area -having a sample size for beverages displayed would be helpful -footprints on the floor for 6 foot covid19 distancing are a foot away from eachother (because the line snakes around)

-heights patrons are the worst. Today while getting my order the other patrons were insufferable: one lady lectured the cashier for 5-6 minutes after her order was in her hands on the proper sequence to put her breads in the bag ???keep in mind with the masks, plastic guard, and kitchen no one can hear anything. The next patron was upset that her 16 oz coffee was 16 oz ??? but wouldn’t let the manager fix anything. Outside of the store, a pickup truck cut the whole line by forcing his way in through a different entrance. If the owners see this review, give this manager and cashier a bonus or extra something. The croissants are great but it’s really disappointing coming here time and time again and almost every time my order is not correct. Especially when you are tipping the employees and they can’t even get your order right??? Almost every time I come here my coffee order is not correct. I order iced vanilla oat milk latte every time and I’ve only gotten it the way I ordered it a few times. It tastes GREAT when it’s correct. I have been given a latte with caramel and whole milk??? that sounds nothing like vanilla and oat milk? The girl asked me twice what my drink was too when I ordered, clearly she wasn’t listening since I got caramel and whole milk. Another time there was no vanilla and it had whole milk again. It’s ridiculous truly. I work in the service industry and I know it is not hard to get these simple coffee orders correct. One time in the drive through I was charged for the order of the person behind me which was more expensive than my order and I was given their order and had to go back inside to get my correct order and there was no apology. Went here for the first time and sad to say this will be my last time. Everything was just disappointing. Shop is really cute and a good menu to select from however service and the product was below average. As a barista, it’s important to make customers feel special despite how you’re feeling that day. And the girl who took my order just looked miserable and didn’t care that I was giving them business. Not once did she smile at me it was a very rushed interaction as well as just looking at me with disgust which doesn’t feel good. Like you could pretend that you enjoy what you do. On top of that it took an awhile for my matcha to get out. There was only 2 people waiting in lobby and maybe a couple cars in drive but the wait wasn’t worth it for the quality of the matcha. It was way overly sweet and I only got 1 pump of vanilla. I tried to finish it cause it was like 8$ but it was too bad I had to throw it out.
