Altar'd State St Johns Town Center — Local services in Jacksonville

I normally love Altr’d State. Unfortunately, today 11/22/2024, I had a pretty defeating experience. I normally do not leave reviews like this however, my interaction with one of their employees as soon as I walked in the door ruined my day. First, I would like to say that I am seven weeks postpartum and yesterday (11/21) just so happened to be my 40th birthday. I went to Altr’d State at Town Center hoping to find a pair of jeans to get me through as I transition out of my post baby body back to my regular physique. As soon as I walked into the store slightly before 2 pm, I was greeted by a young lady with dark curly hair about at her shoulders with a light skinned complexion. Upon asking what I was shopping for, I let her know that I was shopping for jeans and she proceeded to tell me their sizes went up to 32 and that I should look next store at the plus sized section as their clothes wouldn’t fit me. I then told her that I was 7 weeks postpartum at which she looked me up and down and stared at my stomach and told me I could ‘try’ to fit in the jeans but again suggested the plus sized section. She found me size 32 jeans and held them up to me and said “just so you can see…” I found a pair of jeans I liked (size 31) tried them on and they fit. I cannot tell you how horrible this interaction made me feel. A woman already feels insecure after giving birth, then add not being able to fit into any clothes they already own, and top it all off with some young woman telling you you are too big to shop in their store—it’s just uncalled for. I don’t know if I will ever shop in this store again—I have never felt so disgusting in my life. I hope management will take this review to discuss with their employees the importance of being mindful of how they speak to customers. I have had the worst experience at Aritzia ever. This place is quite unprofessional and on top the staff aren’t too friendly if you have any issues with your apparel. I’ve bought many items here, however, today May 28th I was looking forward to return the dress which I bought 3 days before. I had tried it on in the fitting room with a different color dress but as exact style. Later on, I check out with a different because I like the color better but they’re the same dress same size just with a different color. Therefore, I wouldn't try it on again. However, when I got home I noticed some flaws and lots of un-erasable stains. Today, I came to return and exchange another dress or get store credits for me for the next purchase but the Staff are really rude toward me and assume that I caused them stains on the dress. They said “Go home and wash it”. Lady…. I have already done all that but it didn’t work that is why I would have to take my time to return such bad quality of product you guys are selling. This type of work is so unprofessional, the staff need to learn the 30-day policy before they deal with the customer. I typically don’t do this kind of thing unless i’m giving 5 stars but i just wanted to express how disappointed and honestly disgusted I am with the decision to close the Arula side of this store. I know this isn’t the actual store or employees fault whatsoever but im hoping someone maybe higher up will see this somehow. Closing Arula storefront and moving to online only is really sad. The message it portrays is that Altar’d State as a company is basically saying “we want to provide extended sizes for mid-plus size women as long as you’re not seen in our store!” It’s like they want to hide us to make more room for even more non-inclusive clothing. It’s very sad and disappointing because since I discovered this store a year ago, I come at least once every 2 weeks. I’ve sent my family and friends here and we all love this store. It gave me a place to actually try on and purchase clothes that fit me and that are actually cute. This is so wrong. I truly loved this store and i’m really sad about this closing.
