We moved to Jersey from California last spring. Our older daughter just turned 5, and we were looking for a summer school for her to join. We came across good reviews from other parents about AOE, and decided to visit.
School made a great impression on us: amenities, curriculum, and especially the staff, lead by considerate and professional principal Dorota. Our daughter loved the summer she spent in the academy, made great friends, and we decided to sign her up for 2022-2023 kindergarten as well.
In our family we value education and have a very good idea what high quality educational standards look like. It is very important to incept joy of learning in kids from small age, and teacher’s individuality and skills play dominating role in it. Teachers at AOE definitely exceeded our expectations. Our daughter loves doing math and language homework after coming back home. She wakes up every morning with joy on her face to go to school. She learned discipline and manners. She adds, subtracts, solves math riddles for fun, reads everything she could find around, and sings songs in Spanish and Chinese.
Aside from the regular program, AOE also offers an extensive set of extra curricular activities: extra math, engineering, piano, dancing, chess, and many more. Sometimes they are offered through externally invited professionals, and you have to pay extra, but let’s face it, by sending your child to a private school you already made a conscious decision to invest into their future, and the most important consideration at this point is if the school organization delivers to your expectations from all the angles. There is not a single day where we would not receive GREAT experience at the academy. There is not a single day when we would doubt that we made the right decision.
Last but not least it’s important to mention the aspect of school safety. AOE staff is professional and simultaneously very friendly. We receive immediate updates on everything that happens at school, and teachers give regular feedback on child’s progress and daily school life.
The purpose of this review is not to solicit, but to share our honest experience, and make sure that great people that contributed so much into our daughter’s first academic experience get recognition that...
Read moreThis review is for the infant classroom. My husband and I reviewed several daycares prior to enrolling our daughter at 5 months old. AOE won us over through Dorita (owners) involvement and their seeming commitment to cleanliness which was something Dorita focused on during our tour. After only two months we immediately took our daughter out of the infant classroom after she had experienced severe diaper rash, two colds, and skin rashes from daycare. I had brought concerns to Dorita's attention but did not observe any adjustment after doing so. For example, I advised the infant 'caretakers' wore outside shoes all over the infant floor, where they crawl all day long - Dorita responded she would rectify this immediately and I still observed their dirty shoes the following week. I had also asked the caretakers to pay close attention to diaper changes, having noticed residue several times after picking her up. They assured me they would do so, but after seeing the worst and most alarming rash after extending her daycare hours to a full day (830-330 pm) I decided enough was enough. She has not experienced that diaper rash before or since leaving AOE. I will say that AOE markets itself as a premier, boutique, and refined establishment for children, toddlers, & infants and it is nothing of the sort. Dorita charges parents thousands of dollars in enrollment fees (insurance fee, supplies fee, cleaning fee, registration fee) which is above any daycare I have seen in the JC, Hoboken area and for all that your child is exposed to dirty standards and poor caretaking. Another thing to note I brought to Dorita's attention is the manhandling and vicious nature of one of her caretakers 'Maria' who not only I observed roughly pick up and handle the infants but my parents when dropping off my daughter. They unsolicited without any familiarity with the caretakers noted how she was with the infants. I strongly advise parents to look at alternative daycares for their precious infants who do not have the ability to verbalize what they are experiencing at this so...
Read moreMy daughter attended the Academy of Excellence for the past 2 years, from PreK-3 to PreK-4. I strongly and genuinely recommend AOE to any parents who are searching for a preschool and kindergarten in Jersey City, especially those who are looking for great teachers and are concerned about English, social skills, and other subjects such as math and science.
When we decided to send her to preschool, we did not expect much but hoped that my daughter would learn very basic English. However, what she actually learned from AOE is significantly beyond my expectations! Before AOE, she was not able to speak any English words since we don’t speak English at home, and now we are surprised every day by how much her English and conversational skills have improved.
Before she joined AOE, she had stayed home due to the pandemic and was not able to learn social skills to interact with others. Now, we observe that she hangs out with her friends at school with a happy face and can even easily get along with other kids her age outside of school.
The academic progress is also impressive. We haven't put much pressure on her at home, but she learned everything from the school, and now she can read and write many sight words, count, compare, add, subtract numbers, read the clock, and more.
AOE also offers many activities such as cooking, phonics, art, math, and dance classes. I encouraged my daughter to attend as many activities as possible so that she could be exposed to many different subjects. My daughter loved those classes, and it was a really good experience for her.
I would like to specially thank the teachers and staff who have been warm and kind to my daughter. It was lovely to see my daughter always wanting to hug them when she leaves the school. They have always been very responsive and respectful to the parents as well.
We are moving out of Jersey City, so our daughter will not be able to attend AOE kindergarten. We will miss AOE and cherish the memories we have made...
