Dullboy is an excellent addition to the Grove street area and a very different establishment from its surrounding counterparts.
Drinks - The primary focus of Dullboy is the custom cocktails. Each donned with the name of a lovely lady, the ingredients are original and come together for a nice sophisticated beverage.
Food - The food is also in a league of its own. I got the pickles (made on premise) and the Big Smack burger which consisted of two patties and melted cheese. The entire burger was melt in your mouth delicious.
Service - The two bartenders were friendly and joked with me and my friend throughout our couple hours stay. They both knew our cocktail orders by name and made them expertly in front of us. I make it a habit to ask the origin of the name of the bar and was interested to hear that it was inspired by The Shining scene with the typewriter. "All work and no play makes Jack a Dull Boy"
Environment - Dullboy could use some work on the outside. The sign is painted over its former occupant, Park and Sixth, and when we arrived out front the windows were all drapped and we weren't sure it was open. Inside, the bar is cozy, with walls covered in newspaper clippings and typewriter pages as well as actual typewriters displayed along one side. The music was a refreshing soundtrack of 90's hip hop, reggae, and classic rock. You never knew what you were going to get.
Specials - Although the bars primary focus is cocktails, it was nice to see a handful of craft brews of the week as well as an option for $4 cans if you wanted to go a cheaper route. Mondays are also $1 oysters all night, but I'm not a fan so I didn't partake.
Overall - Check it out for sure if you're looking for a quite hangout! I was very happy and will...
Read moreAmazing food and drinks. However, the customer service was extremely poor. I made a reservation for 7pm in the dining room. As soon as we were seated, the waitress inquired if we came for drinks or food. When we said both, she said we need to vacate the table within an hour forty-five minutes. I asked if we could be seated at another table (which many were empty) in case we wanted to stay later than that time and she said only the patio, but as it was a very humid/rainy day we declined. She later came by to remind us that we only had 30 minutes left to vacate the table. When there was 15 minutes left before our supposed "deadline" she told us that the other party was running late and we could "take our time." When I asked the waitress if it was policy that tables are only allowed 1 hour 45 minutes she said it was standard. However, none of the other tables surrounding us got the same warnings when seated nor were they hounded with constant reminders of how long they had to use the table. It certainly ruined the overall experience and was highly unnecessary and rude considering the point of the reservation process. Apart from the fact the restaurant had no indication how long we intended to stay at the outset, if it intends to have a time limit on tables that information should be advertised at the time of the reservation, and certainly not when the party is being seated or throughout...
Read more10/10. They were playing all of the 90's hits throughout our 2 hour brunch. Coupling that with their newly updated outdoor space, the ambiance is on point. For drinks, dullboy is obviously famous for their mixology expertise, but I highly recommend trying celia’s punch. They serve their punches with these really cute glass, gold-rimmed tea cups with hand painted fruit on the front. I'm normally not a rum drinker, but this was a refreshing summer cocktail, complete with an Instagrammable presentation, where they place the garnishes and pour the champagne right in front of you. For brunch, don't sleep on the artichokes or the pear and prosciutto hot pockets. Other favorites were the lettuce wraps - especially the shrimp. Last but not least, the service!!! There were 6 of us and online only allows reservations for up to 4 and doesn't mention outside. Francisco emailed me back the same day and was super accommodating and told me exactly how to book this though Resy and changed it on his end. The server was super attentive, gave great recommendations and was just overall extremely pleasant. Bottom line: TRY THEIR BRUNCH!!! (and their...
