Dharamvir Jewellers — Local services in Jersey City

I bought a gold coin/ bar from them, and in short, they lost a potential repeat customer. I went, asked for a gold coin/ bar, they showed me the PAMP Suisse bar, we discussed rates- all good. As a first time buyer of precious metals in the US, I asked what I acknowledge could be very unusual, even stupid question, that could I see their license to sell gold in new jersey and US. Now, with no other way of knowing an independent shop owner, this was my only way of making sure that I’m buying from the right place (from a lot of online research), and I explained that that’s why I was asking. The owners got so visibly angry and rude, and went ahead and told me they aren’t supposed to share any such information with customers, and that I should not buy from them if I can’t trust them and not ask for any proofs. They further went on to tell me that I wasn’t buying enough gold from them to ask for anything, and maybe they would consider answering my questions if I’d buy north of a kilo. If this wasn’t enough, they told me they had been running the store for 24+ years and nobody had asked them for any proofs, which is totally possible, but then on being asked more about the 24 year history, they tell you they have been operating the store for only 3.5 years, and that they have no other locations, but maybe some manufacturing setup, all while being very visibly uncomfortable sharing any bit of detail. I was also told I should trust their word (which btw takes years to build with a new customer especially in such an industry) over asking for any proofs. All in all, there seem to be a lot of transparency issues with this store, along with amazingly bad customer experience and I will not be returning here, definitely not for jewelry because you certainly need a lot more transparency when it comes to jewelry. I had a very disappointing experience at this gold shop. When we went to see rings, the staff member completely ignored us and didn’t even consider our request. When we asked politely to see some rings, she responded very rudely with “go and see there” instead of assisting us. Even after waiting for more than 10 minutes, we were not attended to, while the people who came after us were greeted and served right away.

This kind of behavior is highly unprofessional and disrespectful. Customers expect basic courtesy and service, especially when making an important purchase like jewelry. I would not recommend this shop to anyone looking for good service...
