I was a customer at the Portofino location for 3 years. The location was very convenient since it is near the Newport Mall. I was happy with the manager Seema and the other staff who gave me the hair cuts. The customer service there was good. The price is very affordable. The cons. Seema is no longer employed there. The hair stylists who I liked are either no longer employed there or they are working less days. One of the hair stylists I was seeing got transferred to another location and is working less days at the Portofino location. I can not make it there on the weekends. While Seema was the manager there, I had rated the Portofino location with 5 stars. I did not have a problem there. After the horrible and negative experience I had with the new manager Diane who had replaced Seema, I no longer give this location a 5 star rating. Diane got me very upset towards the end of my visit. Her customer service was very bad. The issue I had with her was very embarrassing. It also embarrassed me to the staff and the customers. I feel very humiliated, offended, angry and hurt. She remained silent and did not even apologized after this happened. She took advantage that she was the manager. What she did was deliberate and mean spirited. I was shocked and deeply disturbed. The bad experience with Diane would not have happened if Seema had still been the manager and had still been employed there. I can not write in a public review about exactly what had happened with Diane. That was a terrible way for her to treat a loyal customer. Also, when Diane had cut my hair in the past, she did a very detail job. This time, she did not spend that much time cutting my hair. I was not not happy with the haircut. I was lucky that it worked out there for 3 years. After the negative experience that I had with the manager Diane, I am too embarrassed to even come back. I no longer feel comfortable at this location since Diane is the manager there now. There were red flags about her. She overstepped her bounds. There is also a risk of embarrassment and a problem happening there. This location is independently owned. Corporation has no jurisdiction there. We had visited Great clips store on 10/20/2023 located in Portofino at 1 2nd St, Jersey City, NJ 07302
Our family is a regular client of Great clips. But this time Rachael gave my 3.5 old daughter a terrific uneven haircut last evening. When I had clearly told her cut one length all over, she still chopped off her front hair till her cheeks. I wanted this haircut as we are going on a vacation. It’s disgusting as I was requesting her multiple times. Now it would take months to get that length. Please don’t appoint such unprofessionals to make loss of your loyal clients. Since my toddler was getting cranky I couldn’t notice that immediately. So, Upon calling them next morning on 10/21/2023 I wanted to talk to a very humble lady manager who was very kind n loving to our daughter during our last visit around 2 months ago.
But instead this arrogant girl named Seema, rather than giving me an apology on behalf of her co-worker, she started arguing n yelling at me very badly. Also, she was only saying message would be passed to the owner.. And to my surprise, now Seema said there’s no any manager appointed at d store. Literally, without any single word of apology, Seema bunked the cal.

Read moreI had a disappointing experience at this salon. The haircut I received from the stylist, who appeared to be an older gentleman, was not up to my expectations. I would advise against seeing him specifically. While waiting, I did observe other customers leaving with nice haircuts. Despite my personal experience, I do acknowledge that the salon has the potential to provide good services to other customers
Long due update: While my initial experience at this salon was disappointing and resulted in the worst haircut of my life, the management team's response to my feedback was very positive. They were quick to reach out and offer a free haircut to make amends. Although I was initially hesitant to return to the salon, I decided to give them another chance, especially after noticing other people's nice haircuts. This time, I had Judy as my hairstylist and she did an amazing job of fixing the previous haircut disaster. While the end result wasn't perfect, it was vastly improved, increasing my rating from a 1star to 4 stars.
Overall, I would say that every hairstylist at the salon has their own unique skillset, and it really does depend on who you entrust your hair to. Based on my personal experience, I would highly recommend asking for Judy or Seema if you visit the salon, as they both seem to have a lot of expertise and provide better results.
