This park provides a unique experience that is not typical of your normal RV destination. This is Urban camping and not a state park which means you won’t necessarily do the same things or have the same amenities you would normally have when camping. Let’s start with the Cons of this particular park. It’s a parking lot! There is no grass, no trees, very few picnic tables and open fires are prohibited. It’s a parking lot! You are packed into your sites tightly. You have room, as most of the sites are 18 feet wide but they are right next to each other. It’s in Jersey City, meaning if you are driving or pulling a large rig your going to experience some right sporty driving conditions. Narrow streets, traffic and people’s general disregard for any traffic law. Not for new or nervous drivers. Now for the Pros!!! The staff is world class!!! Melanie will bend over backward to make sure you are taken care of and truly wants her guests to have a great experience. The park is within a short walk to public transportation, the ferries, or if you want to drive into the city it’s only a mile or so from the Holland Tunnel. It’s adjacent to Liberty State Park where you can catch the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island ferry. You can walk there, it’s about a mile or you can park for $7 a day for cars and $10 for buses and RV’s. There are dry sites and Water/Electric sites(No Full hookup sites) They have a dump station on site for guest use. The electric and water connections are fairly new. I was worried before the trip about the quality of the electrical connection so I installed a hardwired Electric Management System/surge protector but I had no issues with the electric and the water had good pressure. The restroom/showers were clean and there is a laundry room but I did not visit it. They are actively improving the park. The section I was in had new asphalt and newly added gravel. The sites are all back in sites and most are very level. What this park gives you is a place you can see NYC while enjoying the comfort of your RV. The next closest RV park to the city is an hour away. If your coming here your most likely not here to stay in your RV all day. You will be out and about all day exploring the city and only coming back to nap, or resupply and this is where the park shines, as a base camp. Yes it is expensive(comparatively), $150 a night, but try getting a hotel room or Air B&B in the same proximity of the city in a safe neighborhood for that price. They also have 24/7 Security guards on site and the entire park is fenced and gated. We never felt unsafe during our 4 day/3 night stay. If you want a very unique way to see NYC put this on the list. I promise it will be...
Read moreThis might be long. So much to share & lots of pics. First, NO REGRETS. Our stay here was amazing & full of wonderful unforgettable experiences. I was a bit apprehensive about getting here. But it was easy. We did not go thru NYC, no toll roads & didn’t go thru any tunnels. My excellent navigator wife routed us to Jersey City from the north. My 31’ C Class + tow = around 50’. Maneuvering the streets in Jersey City with our rig was not bad.
When my wife first saw the NYC skyline from the New Jersey side, she said it made her want to cry! I get it. I believe New York City is like the heartbeat of America. Love the views and older buildings mixed in with modern. Was a fun drive getting to the RV Park.
From the moment we arrived until the time we left it was 100%. Everything you need is here: Place to park & hook up, water, electric, dump station, SECURITY, clean spacious restrooms with showers, large clean laundry facility.
We walked next door to Liberty State Park and walked around Jersey City. Safe to bike, skate, jog or walk. Cafes, restaurants, bars, museums, views, on and on. Take a 15-minute ferry ride to Manhattan. Trains, uber, whatever.
We personally discovered we prefer staying on the Jersey side because we can enjoy the awesome views of the NYC skyline better. There is nothing like it. We have developed a new fondness for Jersey City and the people!!!
The UNEXPECTED icing-on-the cake happened on our last night there. Heard boom, boom, boom!!! Discovered someone got a permit to shoot aerial fireworks in the safe area of Liberty Island for someone’s birthday!!! (Must be nice.) So, for a good 20 to 30 minutes, we enjoyed the most specular fireworks show ever - - like a loooong grand finale. (30-sec clip attached)
BTW, we are full time travelers in our RV and have been to 46 states in over 5 years. We appreciated everything about Liberty Harbor RV Park & Marina. A totally different experience than the normal wooded campsites, RV parks & resorts on lakes or rivers. And how cool to be able to stay in an RV Park and enjoy magnificent NYC skyline views every day & night, the Hudson River, and the Marina on the edge of the Atlantic.
My suggestion: Enjoy your time here. It’s a happy place. Everyone was nice & helpful.
If I did have any regrets, it’s that we couldn’t spend 2 or 3 weeks there. If I had known it would be so enjoyable, I would have planned my economics and agenda for a much longer stay. We hope to make the trek up here an annual thing. Also, I think it would be fun to be here when it snows. And how beautiful at...
Read moreThe park was very easy to get to. Follow the directions on the RV Park’s Web Site. There is pavement all the way including the interior roads. Signage is adequate although not needed. You can’t go any further following their directions.. Check in was efficient and friendly and very informative. Melanie, the lady that works in the office is the best tour guide we have ever met. She will direct you to where ever you need to go! The rules are fairly basic. The most important one is letting them know you are checking out. Not hard to do. Sign the clip board that sits right outside the check in window. If you don’t check out you will be charged $40.00 via your on file credit card.
Our site, A04 was a gravel back in that was just long enough for our Coach with our Towed snuggled beside it. Services (30/50 amp and water only) were to the left rear. Each site has no other amenities. Our site was flat but seriously sloped to the front. Our front wheels were off of the ground when our auto levelers finished. Overall the park was acceptable for what it was designed to do. It is not a resort. There is nothing to do inside of the park. There is no entertainment what so ever. Your neighbors will be real close but I doubt you will see much of them. The only reason you are here is to have a safe place to sleep while you visit NYC. There is very good security 24/7.
We could never get the park included wifi to connect but there were other “free” wifi connections available. Verizon was mostly one bar, two on occasion. There is no Cable TV but we found plenty OTA channels. Satellite will not be difficult as there are no trees to block a signal We did not use the washrooms or showers or laundromat but we checked and found them clean.
There is very close access to ferry services that will take you close to Wall Street etc. The Grove Subway Station is just an easy ten minute walk. From there, the 33rd Street Train will take you within very easy walking distance to The Empire State Bldg, Times Square, Macy’s etc. It is about a ten minute drive to the Ferry that will take you to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.
There are is a Surf/Tiki Bar just across the parking lot but we did not go there. A Pharmacy is within walking distance. A grocery store is just a short drive away. We found this park to be a great base to see NYC. We paid $135.00 per night plus tax. ($579.26 for four nights) and we feel we received fair value. When you consider how convenient access to the NYC tourist attractions are it’s pretty reasonable. We will be back if in...
