We picked up our campervan called Buzz at the Jersey City Depot located just across the Hudson from downtown Manhattan. The guys in the office were friendly and we were ready to go within an hour of arrival. A group of four, two adults and two teenage boys we hired roofrails to ensure enough space to carry the volumes of kit we seemed to arrive with including our own tent, tarp and hammock plus a mosquito net which we were able to hang over the camper bed to avoid issues with open doors in the evenings. We rented a tent from Escape to reduce our baggage on our flight from the UK. This tent was a Coleman 3 to 4 man and would have been comfortable for 3 and spacious for 2, as it was only one of my son's slept in it and it doubled as bag storage space and changing area when on a campsite. We spent 11 days with Buzz and headed up Long Island then across the sound on a car ferry to New London Connecticut before driving up through Rhode Island to Provincetown at the top of Cape Cod. Highly recommend the North Highland Campsite located just off the Head of the Meadow Beach. Basic but spacious pitches with sufficient facilities to make camping easy with the only negative being there were no washing up places for pots and pans. Realistically the sink in the campervan was too small for easy washing of large pans etc so I recommend bringing or buying a plastic washing up bowl. The equipment provided was sufficient for purposes although we took along a collapsable Outwell colander for draining pasta etc. The van did not have any means of making coffee despite being included in the kit list. We managed to buy a stove top coffee percolator but if any specific item is important to you I would advise checking all the equipment prior to leaving the depot. After 5 days up on the Cape we headed inland to Lake George NY before returning to Jersey City covering 1200 miles in all. All in all we would have no hesitation in recommending Escape Campervans to friends. I would add that for Europeans and UK folks heading over to the Eastern USA pay the extra for full insurance coverage, the roads including the highways are pretty much loaded with pot holes etc Being covered for any damage caused by the road conditions was...
Read moreWhat an awesome experience, I can’t recommend Escape Campervans enough!
First, to speak on my experience before getting out in the van: everyone I spoke to went out of their way to help me out, especially because I had to reschedule a couple of times due to schedule conflicts and pandemic stuffs. (We ended up going on the weekend of our 2yr anniversary and it was a perfect way to celebrate). I appreciated their team being so accommodating and literally anything you need to know about the logistics of campervan traveling can either be found through their site or their staff (they also provide a whole booklet for you to keep with itineraries, how-tos, recipes, everything!).
Now, the trip itself was absolutely amazing. We didn’t even go that far either, we just went about 2 hours upstate to keep the trip on the less expensive side. (Putting a plug in for Rustic Ridge View Farm over by New Paltz - Wally was a great host!)
This trip was something I had won in a raffle and came with a bunch amenities but I would 100% recommend many of them including a bedding kit, kitchen kit, camping chairs, and propane tanks. I mean, they think of literally everything you could need which takes the stress of packing a bunch of extra stuff out of the equation. They even had a wine opener in there, they’re good people lol.
The car drove great, I have a lot of driving experience but have never driven a van and I felt pretty comfortable operating the vehicle. Oh and it has a cooler! That was very cool - pun intended. The cooler cools down while the car battery is on and can stay cool for a day or two before it needs some juice. I wasn’t expecting that but it came in super handy. The bed was also quite comfy, I was surprised how easy it was to sleep in the van and the pillows they provided were top notch.
All in all everything - from the staff, to the van, to the experience itself - exceeded my expectations of campervan traveling. These guys really care about making your trip as comfortable and fun as possible and just genuinely want people to get out and explore. I would 100% come back and book...
Read moreAtlanta!! I. LOVE. ESCAPE CAMPERVANS. I got the Mervericks gem, Angular. The van was in excellent condition, but Reagan made sure to check it over with us for any existing damages before we left. She also showed us everything in the van and how to use it. The bed, sink, refrigerator, and stove made our music festival vacation an absolute breeze. The bed was easy to convert to and comfortable, and the blackout curtains were perfect. The sink was easy to use. Even though it's not a freezer, the refrigerator was cold enough to keep my frozen patties a safe temp (and can be adjusted to whatever temp you need). The van was easier to drive than I anticipated (never having driven a vehicle that large before), and gas was easy to fill. The Bluetooth connection to my phone was also super easy to set up so we could play whatever music we wanted. There was a space, a holder, or a compartment for everything. The extras we added were clutch! : We got the camping chairs (were allowed 4 chairs for the two of us in case we had friends to share with). They were really nice quality. Definitely get the bedding set up, too. Sheet fits the bed and the pillows and comforter were warm and comfortable. Again, not cheap stuff! The tent was in good shape, and came with two sleeping pads and two warm sleeping bags. We also got the electric kit, but weren't able to use it. When I asked if they would consider refunding the cost of the kit since it was clearly unopened, they responded kindly and promptly, and issued a credit.
**Forgot to say: I emailed with questions a ridiculous amount between reserving this van and picking it up. Reagan answered all of my questions promptly and fully. She even modified the time of my pick up when it was outside of the hours listed on the main website. John got me through the drop-off checklist quickly when I was running late to make a flight. These guys really are awesome.
10/10 for Reagan and John and their Atlanta team. I would definitely...
