B18 Coffee Kitchen — Restaurant in Jersey City

I am writing this review to alert all of the disappointment, disrespect, and lack of professionalism that my mother has experienced with this business. She has been going to the B18 Coffee Kitchen for some months now. She always orders a turkey burger with fries or with a small green salad. This particular day she walked in the shop and ordered the usual (turkey burger with fries), but when she arrived home and opened the container, it was not what she ordered. It seems they gave her a roasted pork sandwich of some sort. She immediately called the B18 Coffee Kitchen and informed staff of the mix up in her order. The young man (Ken) who took the call was polite and informed her to come back the same day or next day to be refunded for the order. The following day, my mother was refunded with no problems and placed her order as she usually does without issue.

On July 22, 2021, my mother placed an order over the phone so she could pick it up after work. The young lady that took the order stated she didn’t hear her, so my mother repeated herself 3x. Upon arrival to the business, she paid for the order, but again when she arrived home, the order was incorrect AGAIN. This time, it was a veggie burger with toppings that she cannot eat. My mother immediately called the business and the young man (Ken) that took the payment in the store answered the phone. My mother informed him of the mix up in orders again. He stated “I should have said something, but I thought you wanted to try something else.” This confirms that the staff are familiar with my mother’s regular orders as this individual noticed it was wrong.

Ken informed my mother to come in the next day and he would remake the order, but when she called the business before leaving work, a young lady answered the phone. When my mother asked to speak to Ken and explained the mix up in the order, the lady stated she was the one who took my mother’s order. My mother again requested to speak to Ken as he was the staff who advised my mother to come down the next day so he could correct the mix up. The lady rudely replied, “Ken has nothing to do with this, he can’t tell you anything!” The lady stated she took the order and insisted my mother ordered a veggie burger and not a turkey burger. She then told my mother to bring in the order from yesterday. (who keeps an order that is wrong and saves it a whole day?! It was thrown away as it had toppings that my mother cannot eat!) My mother tried to explain to the lady that this was the 2nd time that her order has been incorrect. The lady refused to listen and insisted that my mother ordered a veggie burger and not a turkey burger. This staff raised her voice, yelled to attempt to make her point (which was incorrect), and was extremely unprofessional! My mother requested to speak to the manager, yet the staff did not honor this request. She continued to treat and talk to my mother as if it was her fault when clearly it was not. She did not apologize for the mix up, nor for her negative and unprofessional behavior displayed. In one instance of the yelling, the lady told my mother she would refund her but told my mother not to come back there anymore. This by far, is the worst experience ever from a “business.”

At this point, we will never support this business going forward. We understand mix ups and mistakes happen, but maintain professionalism and rectify the situation. This experience has been extremely negative, unprofessional and subpar customer service. The level of disappointment for this small business is high and we will not support going forward. To this day, the manager still has not reached out to apologize for this...

Update: Just want to say thank you for supplying great coffee, food and service for the neighborhood! I never run into the previous encountering another time. Really appreciate your coffee that brighten up our days!

I had a very unpleasant one star experience with a new staff today. I didn’t put an actual 1-star Google rating, because I don’t think it’s other ones’ fault. I always like the food here, and the friendly staff as well. They always made my day- just a sip of coffee would refresh me from a busy working day. The 5 star is for them- they truly deserve it and I really appreciate their work.

However I had a really unpleasant encountering with a new staff today. With this new staff, I ordered a cake as usual and she mixed it up with a wrong one. I realized it by checking the items before I left, and by that time I already made the payment. She told me the price for the wrong cake is higher than the one I actually want to order, and she couldn’t refund me because her manager is not here. I friendly let her know that I’m totally fine with exchanging the cake without a refund (I know she’s new, and who don’t make mistakes?). I want to exchange because I had bought the wrong cake previously and was sure I don’t prefer that flavor. Then this new staff acted very impatient (e.g. slamming the door of the fridge when exchange the cake) and was mean mugging me for the next couple minutes. I felt so insulted and uncomfortable, so I left asap. I had never ran into this experience before at b18 coffee and was shocked by this rude and unprofessional behavior. The experience was horrible. When I placed my order I let the server know that I had an allergy to gluten and do not have bread on my plate and not make contact with my omelette. She fully understood. When my food came out the bread was in contact with my omelette. Also my omelette was cold. When I told them about it they shoes not concern no sympathy that I could end up in the hospital. To top it off my husbands omelette was very cold after 2 bites so he requested to have a new omelette , which they said they can microwave but not make a new one. They gave us a hard time, and to top it all off to give it back to us they decided to take there time 20 minutes to make new omelette, the our 2 year old and mother in law had to eat without us which totally ruined the whole family experience. Finally the food cane out and didn’t take very good which showed no effort, but we were hungry so we ate it. We noticed some of the staff coming out with a mop and a bucket with bucket filled with cleaning supply which was a very strong odor which made the environment uncomfortable. At the end of it all we got our check we expressed our concerns with the manager, we felt the service and the food did not meet the standards of a restaurant establishment. She did not care she said what she will do is give us credit for a banana which we left was not a fair solution.
