The only reason I am still enrolled at this Jersey City studio is because of the 3 Coaches (Chad, Nicole and Sergio) and because I like the OTF workout. The front desk staff is pretty decent too, here. Theyāre polite and pleasant to deal with.
However, the Studio Manager - Marissa has got to be one the rudest people Iāve ever met, and knows nothing about customer service and basic politeness. I went in today to discuss something with her based on what was committed to me in terms of membership rates and studio opening for their Paulus Hook studio (sister branch of JC and owned / to be managed by the same team). I had a valid concern and some questions because theyāve delayed the opening of that studio for several months now. Instead of listening to me or even trying to help (or even pretending to try to help), she chose to be curt in her behavior and her responses and refused to help me. I even told her there were certain things discussed with another person called Tony who had persistently contacted me for the Paulus Hook studio, but she didnāt seem to care about anything that was committed to me.
Brushing a customer off in this manner, being rude and dismissive is really not the right approach. I was asking her a simple question and stating what was previously discussed with Tony. Then for some reason she jumps right into wanting to cancel my membership. Just ridiculous. I was quite taken aback by this, so I just walked away at this point as I didnāt want to ruin my day because of her. But I did call Tony and left him a detailed voice message and asked him to call me back so we could discuss. Tony called me several hours later and right off the bat, he started interrupting me, speaking over me, not letting me explain to him what my concern even was and raised his voice at me. He then went on a completely different tangent and arguing for absolutely no reason. Literally till the end of that horrible phone call, he went on and on and wouldnāt let me even explain what my concern was. At this point, I was fed up and asked him to just cancel my membership at the end of this billing cycle because I will NOT subject myself to this terrible behavior.
Iāve worked out at other OTF studios and always had a good experience with the staff and the amenities. Other studios offer towel service and in-body scans as a member but this studio just wants to charge you for every single thing.
It is sad because I truly enjoy the workout and this was such a simple thing that could have been resolved in a pleasant and peaceful manner. I literally went in for a good workout, see if they could do something to address my questions and thatās it. Yet, these people choose to be rude, dismissive and condescending and for what reason??? I will really never know.
Good Luck with this attitude OTF Jersey City Team! I will not be paying you people to treat me...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreGreat classes, cheap owners.
This review is specifically for the Newport studio. Iāve been a monthly member of this studio for the past 9 months. The instructors and classes are great, and Iāve gotten into great shape as a result. I like the format of the class, the staff, and instructors.
However, the ownership at this location is exceptionally cheap. The equipment is CONSTANTLY breaking/under maintained. There was a period of time where some treadmills would literally shake/rattle as you were running on them. Around this time it would be common to see 2-3 treadmills with traffic cones on them, indicating they were unusable.
Recently, the ownership upgraded the rowers by purchasing iPads on each. Sounds goodā¦until you realize that the iPads are constantly broken. When you do rows, the iPad does not register any movement, making the rower useless to track your progress or follow the scheduled workout.
I would estimate that 1/3 of my classes, I encounter a broken rower or other equipment issue.
It feels like the owners of this studio made the calculated business decision that their revenue is locked in through monthly memberships, so it is not worth it for them to spend extra money on equipment repairs. The members can deal with faulty equipment and the extra profits are worth it. This is probably the correct business calculation to make, but itās still very annoying dealing with the constantly malfunctioning equipment.
There have been rumors that there will be a second Orange Theory location opening in Jersey City. If/when that ever happens Iāll transfer my membership to it, as it seems like a safe bet the new studio wonāt have nearly as many...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAlmost a year into Orangetheory at JC and I'm still hooked & addicted from my 1st mock up in Aug. 2018! The coaches (Sergio, Coach H, Dana, Mackenzie, Lindsey & Sam) are amazing, energetic & super encouraging!! They're also very knowledgeable in fitness & care about your form, progress & how much effort you put into each class! The staff (Wes, Q, Darian, Alex, Maria, Steven, Jenna & Ricki) are above & beyond! They're supportive, patient, friendly & helpful! You'll never catch anyone with a frown! The workouts speak for themselves. Each day is different and challenges you to improve and progress each time you go back. I wish I could take a class every day! šŖš» *but 4x a week is good enough lol š§”š„The Jersey City studio is truly amazing though! They truly care about your progress & want to see you improve and help you reach your goals. Each class is different which makes it exciting. If you put your mind to it and go to classes about 4x a week, you will definitely see progress and improvement in strength, agility & endurance as early as a month's time. The heart rate monitors also help you track your progress to see how you are performing in each class which I think is a plus bc then you cannot slack off! Also, even with an injury, the coaches are accommodating & help guide you with modified exercises. I could go on and on about how amazing this specific studio is. I highly, highly recommend Orangetheory to...
