First, the time for Sunday on the website and Google is incorrect. The shop opens earlier than 10:30am. I was fortunate to call first, but a woman had not and arrived at 10:30 and had to wait a few hours since all the chairs were booked. A previous review said that the shop was clean. It was not a clean shop, they use any comb in your hair, have no disinfectant for the combs. I did not see them clean the combs at all before using on other people. The pricing seemed very random, like they were making up prices based on how you looked. There was no real price list or sample braid sizes and lengths with pricing. My main issue is I got twists, the first person who did my twist did it tight. I told the second woman that the first 4 twists were tight and said it needs to be taken out. She acted as if she didn't understand me. The first girl told me that all the twists will be tight and taking them out will make no difference. As she was finishing the front, her twists were not as tight as the first, once again I told her the other twists were too tight. She just ignored me. Now...I know I should have demanded that she take them out but at the end I just wanted to get out of there. Which leads me to my other issue... I asked at the start how long it would take, the first woman tells me 3 hours. Now I knew that was bogus but I figured 4 hours. At the 4 hour point I asked again for an estimate on when it would be done. The first woman again tells me one more hour, I then knew to double her time. So after 6 hours of sitting there after expecting to be there 4 hours I was fed up and wanted to go. The final thing, the sign read that they take credit and debit cards. But when I was done and handed my card I was told they don't take cards that day because the person with the machine isn't there. I had to go to the cash center which charged me extra to withdraw money (came out her tip) to pay. The one good thing i could say was the braids were done nicely. Even though these women don't care about your scalp, hair...
Read moreI've been coming here for like 3 years. They ate the best spot I ever been too. They can braid any type of hair and do any design you ask for. These are good, hardworking people and is a pillar of the community. People come in and out all day long to see how they are doing and tell them how they been. They are very connected to the community. I've never waited longer then like 10 mins to get my hair branded. And I've been to alot of spots but this is my favorite. Not only will you get quality hair branding the prices are the best compared to anyone else. Alot of spots I walk in they just brake it and get u out. But here they will brake your hair and treat your hair with absolute love.Even though most the time I just get 2 brades they take there time with it and do it professionally with grease ,sprayers to the point when I say i have thin soft hair. There is still not even one little baby hair out of place🤣. These are my people I wouldn't go no where else to get my hair braded. And mind u I'm a man but they not funna brade your hair in a men's barbershop. This requires a woman's touch. Throw a pair of African hands in there and you Def not walking out a man's barber shop like u is here. I wish God bless these people cause they are good hard working people. And they work with your budget. Bless these woman this is one of our local businesses and we need to support them like they support jersey city. The city...
Read moreI called Sy Khadi to ask if they were able to do Senegalese Twists for me. I was given a number to text instead. I texted them, sent them photos of the hairstyle I had done previously that I wanted to be done, and they confirmed they could do it if I just walked in.
I arrived at the salon, and immediately without even taking the hair that I brought out of the bag and looking at it, I was told they can’t do twists with it, only box braids (even though they confirmed that they could do it over text). I showed them photos of my hair in Senegalese twists with the EXACT hair I brought to the shop for them to use, and they still said it was impossible for them to do. So, I asked if they had hair in the color I wanted to do twists their way, and even then they said they only had one color! I’m not sure why they outright rejected my money; either they are extremely limited in what they know how to do and their services are falsely advertised, or they are extremely rude and only pick customers they like to serve.
Instead of settling for their rude, unprofessional, mean, and unskilled attitudes, I went to another African braiding shop down the street and they were able to do my twists with the hair I brought perfectly, as soon as I asked, with no hesitation. I would never go to Sy Khadi again, and I will be advising everyone I know never...
