Absolutely Unforgettable Experience with Alaska Tales! Alaska Tales was hands down the highlight of our 7-day Princess Cruise. If you’re stopping in Juneau, do not miss this tour it’s worth every single penny. Though not affiliated with the cruise line, we found Alaska Tales through Viator and were blown away by the reviews, and they absolutely delivered. From the moment we were picked up at the dock, everything was smooth, professional, and friendly. Our shuttle driver (longer hair, originally from out of state - sorry I can’t remember his name!) gave us an amazing intro to Juneau and local wildlife as we made our way to the Mendenhall Glacier. We had about an hour to explore the glacier area, we hiked to the lake’s edge and got great views of the glacier, icebergs, and Nugget Falls. Pro tip: hit the bathrooms at the park early, as lines get long and you don’t want to miss your shuttle back. From there, it was off to the whale-watching boat, and wow, what an adventure. The crew, Captain Greg and naturalists Riley and Taylor, were phenomenal, knowledgeable, passionate, and clearly invested in protecting Alaska’s incredible environment. Riley, in her first season, was especially impressive, she brought so much energy and love for the whales. Within 10 minutes we saw our first spouts. Soon after, a whale breached right beside us, fin and tail slaps galore! We later spotted sea lions lounging on a buoy, and then were treated to something extraordinary: Sasha and her calf Chacha creating bubble nets and feeding. Learning about their behavior, migration, and personalities made it so much more than just sightseeing, it was a real educational experience. From start to finish, Alaska Tales delivered a professional, passionate, and unforgettable adventure. The customer service was top-notch, the wildlife sightings were unreal, and the respect they show for the animals and ecosystem is truly admirable. Don’t think twice, book with Alaska Tales. Easily the best tour operator in Juneau!

Locally owned whale watching tour. I’ve been on many whale watching tours but this one was definitely the most friendliest. Kacie & Genevieve were so knowledgeable! I appreciate all the insight and enthusiasm despite us taking the tour on the “tale” end of the season 😏 thanks to captain Justin for getting us close to the whales! Highly recommend! 🐋

This was the Whale watching trip of a lifetime. Brandon, out boat Captain, positioned the boat perfectly, turned off the engine and this is what happened. The Whale in the pictures swam around our boat and put on a show for over 20 minutes. His mother circled the boat to keep an eye on him. She was HUGE. William and Monica, our naturalist on the boat, were as excited to see this show as we were. Monica even teared up a little. They told us that this was a rare occurrence. They were quick to give us an anatomy lesson since the whale was so close. They were very knowledgeable on all aspects of whale behavior and gladly shared their knowledge with us. The whale was so close to the boat that Brandon told us if was not illegal he would let us pet it. You know you have gotten your moneys worth when the Captain and Naturalist are snaping pictures as fast as you are! We had just enough time at Mendenhall Glacier to take the scenic walk to the base of the glacier and stand under the amazing waterfall and then take the short walk to the stream to see the Salmon. A little more time would have been nice to take in the visitors center but I am not complaining. I would definitely do this excursion again.

Took our money and left us at the dock TWICE. When we booked this Whale Tale tour, we decided to meet them at the dock as opposed to meeting them downtown and take the shuttle with the rest of their tour group. We were instructed to wait at the white tent at the dock, which we did 15 minutes before the time they told us to meet them. Multiple different tour groups from multiple buses arrived at the same time, so there was no clear way to find our group. We had called the phone number for this company during the confusion, but it went to voicemail. The tour group went ahead onto the boats and left the dock. The only reason I know this was because I happened to have the phone number of the booking agent who booked this tour for us. He called the company and was told yes indeed the group just left without us. I was then told there was another tour leaving the dock 90 minutes later, so we decided to eat nearby and wait for the next tour, who was supposed to be looking for us this time. At the later time, we waited at the dock, and again watched multiple different tour groups head onto their boats. Again, NO ONE CALLED OR LOOKED FOR US. Thankfully, the guy whose number I had, told me what the boats looked like when I called him, so we walked to the boat ourselves, showed them our receipt and they let us on. Again, the staff clearly did not care at all whether or not we actually went on a tour. Completely unprofessional. Took over $260 of our money and left us behind TWICE. Would...

Incredible Whale Watching Experience with Alaska Tales

Our whale watching trip with Alaska Tales in Juneau, Alaska, was everything we hoped for and more. The entire process was smooth and easy—from booking to boarding—and the tour itself was both comfortable and thrilling.

Our captain, Krichelle, was outstanding. She expertly navigated the vessel with confidence and precision, and we always felt completely safe in hands.

Monica was warm and welcoming from the moment we stepped aboard. Her attentiveness and kindness made everyone feel right at home. And Kacie—what an incredible guide! Her knowledge about whales was both impressive and engaging. She shared fascinating facts and answered every question with enthusiasm. Her energy and love for what she does added so much to the experience.

And of course—the whales! We were fortunate to witness some truly majestic moments out on the water. Watching them in their natural environment was unforgettable, and the passion of the crew made it all the more meaningful.

If you’re looking for a whale watching tour in Juneau, Alaska Tales is the company to choose. You can tell this team truly loves what they do and is eager to share the magic of Alaska with others. We would absolutely do it again. Huge thanks to Krichelle, Monica, and Kacie for giving us such a memorable and...
