IF YOU are taking a cruise to Juneau, look at this option before any other excursion. What else can I say that hasn't been said in other reviews? This is a very, very different car rental experience. In an age where everything is increasingly being done through AI and automation, here's a company that truly has put the customer first and making sure the stop in Juneau is the best it can be. I was first impressed with the detailed information when I put in a request for info/reservation - fully detailing how it will work, places to visit, etc. Getting all the "paperwork" out of the way before our cruise truly meant we got off our ship (Solstice), and had a two minute walk to the parking garage where the car was waiting. They knew exactly which dock we would arrive on, and sent detailed info to make our way to the car. Within a few minutes of leaving the ship, we were on our way (with snacks and water provided!). Dropping off the car was exactly just as easy. Drive to garage, and lock it up. In our very limited 6 hours in Juneau, we spent some time at Mendenhall Glacier/Nugget Falls, and then headed down to the Treadwell Mine Historic Trail (which is very cool area), sat on a beautiful beach (in Juneau at 80F!), and got back with lots of time to stop for crab. The Outback drives great, and is easily big enough for 4 adults (maybe even 5). But the best interaction that shows how "Like A Local" goes one step further than most, is when I sent an email the day before a little concerned about reading "flooding homes" and seeing Mendenhall being mentioned. I just wanted to know if it was still a good idea to head to Mendenhall Glacier, and they assured me it would be fine when we were there (it was great)...it was nice to know that they could quickly answer any questions I had - like a local, and making us feel like one...
Read moreWe were very glad to stumble upon this agency. We have been searching as to how we can go around Juneau since our cruise line wasn't really helpful in identifying excursions that are wheelchair accessible and doesn't require any transfer. We've researched excursions ourselves but most need to transfer or have to stand up and walk a few steps, and someone in our group was completely wheelchair-bound. As such, our only option was to rent a car and we were so glad we did this with Like a Local.
We were at first hesitant since there weren't a lot of reviews about them. However, since the first instance we reached out, they had been very accommodating and responsive. They provided tips and suggestions on weather and places to go to.
They leave the cars near the port with clear instructions. Cars were very clean and in good condition. They provided car seats since we have young kids with us too. A very pleasant surprise were the bag of goodies and cans of water, and a map of Juneau. They also have these tickets for the tram although we weren't able to use them.
When we were in Juneau mid July, it was raining and having a car was very convenient since we could go to wherever we want and change plans if needed (given the erratic weather in Alaska). And if someone in the group has limited mobility, I think renting a car is a very good, convenient and cheap option (vs. excursions) to go around the area including going to Mendenhall Glacier.
Highly recommend! They set a high bar for any car rental agency and I wouldn't be surprised if they grow much bigger given the outstanding service...
Read moreThe absolute smoothest rental we have ever done! Not only did they provide clear instructions on how to access their car, the parking lot was only 3 minutes walk/access from our cruise dock in downtown Juneau! We booked the 7 passenger Subaru and drove all over Juneau starting around 9:15am and were able to zip quickly to visit Mendenhall Glacier + Nugget Falls trail before all the tour buses arrived!
We then headed to The Grind Coffee Co drive thru where we used the $10 gift card that Like a Local provided to us to get super refreshing coffee that was strong and delicious!
After our coffee break, we visited the Goldenbelt tram where we got stunning views of Juneau for free (due to the rental providing our entire family complimentary tickets). Regular pass for one passenger for the tram is $60! We then visited Tracyâs crab shack for lunch, explored and learned so much history, culture and arts at Alaska State Museum, and had a terrific time exploring the St Therese shrine, Amalga Harbor views, and then returning to downtown Juneau.
The rental made our day trip shore excursion in Juneau so easy and simple and was so worth it for our family of 6! The rental also included a Juneau map, local snacks and the team at Like a Local provided us with their personal top recommendations for our day trip! Such a smooth pickup and drop off experience that made our trip even better. Book this local small business as you will not regret the entire trip and planning experience! Highly recommend them and will recommend...
