Okay so I told myself to not write a review and leave it alone but I can't. My experience wasn't like any others I've ever had in a salon. I booked my daughter for a hair cut. Something she had been begging me for. Finally I agreed to allow it after months of her asking and doing extra things to be on my good side. She's 14 and going into 9th grade and she wanted a dramatic hair cut so I made her sweat a little lol. Anyway I read reviews and looked for a place that I felt was a good spot. That's how I came upon Glow Up. Seemed like a good place. So I made her an appointment online which was nice and convenient. We waited about a week and a half for her appointment. Not too bad. So I bring her in and we are greeted by a lady cutting a man's hair and next to them is a woman obviously waiting to get her hair done and she is just reading a magazine. The woman cutting the man's hair asked what she can do for us and I let her know my daughter has an appointment and she lets us know to have a seat and she'll be with us. I honestly did not get this woman's name who was cutting hair that day and she was the only one cutting hair that I saw while we were inside the salon the entire time we were there and that was my mistake but honestly at a certain point I was just upset for my daughter and that was it. So the lady cutting the man's hair gets done and she asks us what my daughter wants for a cut and my daughter shows her pics and she says oh that's short okay that won't take long and she looks at the lady sitting and waiting and says hey I'm gonna cut her hair really quick it'll take like 5 minutes. I didn't think anything of it but later on I realized that my daughter had the appointment and yet she was talking to the lady like we walked in and she would just get us done and out. the description of the appointment that cost $65 for a women's cut had said it was an hour long appointment. That's what we booked. So she sits my daughter down in her chair and puts the drape thing around her to keep hair from her clothes and she asks if I wanna take a video and I did so I got up and started filming and she grabbed my daughters hair and used clippers to cut the bulk of her hair off. She then does a few cuts here and there not really being precise or even layering her hair like I've ever seen before and says okay great done. We'd been there maybe 10 minutes. Not even. That includes sitting down and showing pics. I asked my daughter if she was happy with it and she said yes. I paid $65 plus tax which was about $68 and some change. We walk out and my daughter looks like she is gonna cry. I ask her what's wrong and she says it fine it's okay I can fix it. So I take her back in and I tell the lady she isn't happy with it can you do more. I ask for the pictures and I tell her to please layer it more and make it more like the picture. I said my daughter was afraid to tell you she didn't like it and the lady was nice enough and sat her down and started again. Another 5 minutes go by and she did add more layers to it but she really didn't put a lot of care into my daughters hair. I just felt like my daughter wasn't important to her. The woman who was sitting in the chair next to my daughter was obviously more important because the lady cutting my daughter's hair was hurrying to get back to her. So for $68 and some change we got a 15-20 minute haircut. She didn't wet her hair at all. She didn't shampoo or condition it. Maybe they don't there idk but for $65 I figured they would. I've never been to a salon that didn’t at least wet your hair first. And there was not one bit of styling. She literally cut it and sent us on our way. Usually at the end the hairdresser will do a little style. That didn't happen. I won't ever go back. One of the things I read on the glow up Facebook page was that they enjoyed pampering their clients. It was put in different words but that's basically it. It makes them happy to pamper the client. We...
Read moreAvoid this place! I wonder why this place gets such a high rating, although, when I was done, I was asked to give good reviews and hand out business cards because apparently they needed more customers. I see that a lot of the people who gave a 5 star rating only left one review ever on google...
My first experience wasn’t great, but it wasn’t the worst either. And in Juneau, you can’t be too picky so I thought I would give it another chance. I wish I hadn’t! Scarlette is very sweet and very, very chatty, but she doesn’t know how to cut (a guy’s) hair.
It really seemed like she didn’t know what she was doing. She just cut it straight, no layering, no thinning, no styling. She just picked up a strand of hair and cut it straight off. I thought she might do the details once my hair was dry, but then she took my cape off and said “done, do you want some hairspray?”. I was too shocked to say anything, I just paid and left. I thought “maybe it’ll look better after a couple of days”; it doesn’t.
My haircut took maybe 20 minutes. 5 of which I had to wait midway through to get my hair washed because there was only one working sink (“the water pressure is bad” was the explanation). Also, for my first haircut I paid $25, for this one I paid $31.50; no idea why, at least with my first haircut I got it blow dried and some styling.
Maybe I got unlucky with my “stylist” (I use that term very loosely in this case), but I won’t take the risk to...
Read moreI booked an appointment for a friend's wedding. I got a message on the day before the wedding saying "new location is xxxxx" No further explanation, nothing. Even if they had text and said "hello an unseen situation came up and we'll have to move your location" literally anything except for the unprofessional text that I got. I text back and said "it's not in the salon? I don't feel comfortable going to somebody's house." They text back and said "I understand" and cancelled my appointment within the minute. Did not even try to come up with a different solution or explain the situation, just canceled my appointment. So they expected a tourist to go to someone's house without any explanation? That's super weird. I even tried to call ro sort it out and they ignored my phone call. So so...
