We stopped into this little bookstore during a cruise stop in Juneau. The store, with its adorably creaky wood floors and aesthetically arranged books, has a wide variety of used books, many focused on Alaska. The bookstore clerk engaged in friendly conversation and explained they were all out of Into the Wild due to a shipment that was still due or something. We found some great children's books for our nieces and nephews.
I appreciated the bookstore clerk's authentic personality and honest responses to my questions about the town and how it must fluctuate radically between cruise arrivals and departures.    Read moreI am a local Juneau person and I love Rainy Retreat Books! Wherever I travel, my wife and I make it a point to visit used bookstores. RR compares well to even City Lights in SF or Capitol Hill Books in DC. This is an independent, owner operated endeavour located in the charming historic downtown Juneau Valentine Building. All kinds of books are offered and there is a great selection of Alaskan literature, including new books. Vinyl records are also available. I enjoy catching up with my friends year around when we meet at the store or chatting there with a visitor to Juneau during the summer tourist season. If you are enthusiastic about reading, this is...
Read moreRainy Retreat Books was by far my favorite business I visited while in Juneau. The two people I talked with in the store were very knowledgeable and helpful with navigating their collection of books (which were very reasonably priced). They even gave me some useful advice on how to make the most of my cruise stopover in the town, including some nice tips about Mendenhall Glacier. I left with multiple books, good advice, and a smile on my face. Also, their dog is very sweet and soft, make sure to give her lots of love. Can’t recommend Rainy Retreat...
