I’m not sure what exactly went wrong with my first experience at Burrito Bros, but I can say without hesitation, it was not pleasant. First, my burrito’s tortilla was wet. Like soaking wet. I can’t be 100%, but my guess is this occurred when the gentlemen behind the counter asked if I wanted pico de gallo, I said no while looking right at him, and he scooped it on anyway. After it finally registered that I did not want any, he simply scraped the stuff off the burrito, leaving only the tomato juice to absorb into the wrap. Second, the burrito was rolled so lightly, that my first attempted bite of said soggy burrito caused most of the bottom portion to unravel, forcing me to abandon the pasty shell, open it up, and eat the contents with a fork. This brings me to my last gripe which was the quality of everything inside. I ordered the carnitas. As one my favorite and most ordered fillings, I have some idea of what it should look and taste like. This wasn’t it. It was literally drenching in slime. I get that it’s pork and it’ll be fatty, but this went well beyond “fatty”and even greasy. This was like bathroom mop bucket water pork. Being one that can put looks aside, I began my attempt to eat this open faced burrito and nearly gagged at both the texture and flavor. The meat was revolting. Yes, that is the word I’m using to describe it, and I’m sticking to it. The guacamole didn’t help to offset my disappointment either, as it’s off-brown color revealed its lack of freshness and definitely affected the taste. It always pains me to be the odd man out since so many enjoy this place, but I must’ve come on a bad day, or even just a bad moment. I will say the service people are friendly, which is worth two stars, but since the objective of eating lunch is to fill my belly with delicious food - not meet nice people - I doubt I’ll be back. But like I said, maybe it was bad moment, and I was in the right place at the wrong time, although I might...
Read moreMy first visit to Burrito Brothers was in March 2022. The restaurant's concept reminded me of a blend between Chipotle and QDOBA, offering a nice take on Mexican street food in the City Market. The menu at Burrito Bros features a decent selection of meat options for tacos, burritos, nachos, and even taco salads. Additionally, they serve paletas (Mexican ice pops) from Frutopia Ice Cream as part of their dessert menu.
When my father and I visited Burrito Brothers, I ordered a steak burrito with a side of tortilla chips, and it was delicious. My burrito was generously filled with guacamole, rice, pinto beans, and pico de gallo. My father opted for a shrimp burrito with similar fillings, and he kindly let me have a taste. Overall, both of our burritos were fantastic. Burrito Bros also provides a paper menu for customers who wish to order takeout.
For anyone searching for a great Mexican street food spot in Kansas City, I highly recommend Burrito Brothers in the City Market. Like Chipotle Mexican Grill and QDOBA Mexican Eats, Burrito Bros offers a good variety of meat choices and extra ingredients that can be added to a burrito, quesadilla, taco, taco salad, or a plate of loaded nachos. In summary, Burrito Brothers has become a staple in the City Market due to its excellent food...
Read moreJust moved into the city from the rural outskirts and decided to take a walk to the River Market. Burrito Bros was open so I decided to stop in and grab some tacos. As a first time customer, their menu is simple and easy to navigate.
They have a large variety to choose from, so even the picky eaters of your party should be able to find something they like.
I ordered three carnitas street tacos. The street tacos come with a number of toppings already selected, but you can add or take away as you like.
They also have a wide selection of salsas available. If you're a fan of heat, you'll be a fan of their hottest sauce, the All Consuming Fire sauce. It is an immediate punch to the sinuses and a wave of heat that lingered until I left the restaurant. As for flavor, it was the perfect blend of ghost-peppery sweetness and heat. If you aren't a fan of heat, they offer mild and medium heat salsas as well.
As for customer service, I'd give it more than five stars if I could. Everybody was friendly and somebody was always available when I needed it. (Such as when I needed an extra water cup, because although my brain loves spicy, my body does not.)
All in all, I absolutely recommend this place if you're up by River Market and hungry. I'll definitely...
