Beware: New policy. They'll only serve people, on $1 Wednesday, who CAN get into the store, which is not easy, or possible, 4 some disabled people.
They will NOT serve any disabled people, who can NOT get into the store on $1 Wednesday!
If u go through the Ice Cream line, on $1 scoop Wednesdays, & try 2 get ice cream, 4 mobility impaired, or special needs kids/people (whom the guardian doesn't want 2 bring in because of all the breakables about, or because the disabled person, may b loud, or have other issues, that make people stare, making it uncomfortable 2 eat in anywhere) b prepared, 2 b accused of buying excess $1 scoops 4 yourself, in front of many others.
What's so hard, to have someone accompany the person, getting multiple ice creams, outside for 2 minutes, to verify they're going to separate people?
So, this experience, soured our visit to Kellerhaus.
HOWEVER, I CAME UP WITH A SOLUTION!
TO AVOID THIS, (our way, or nothing policy) BUY THE 2 SCOOP (around $4.00, I think) or 3 SCOOPS (around $6, I think) [about $2.00 PER SCOOP]. SUNDAE BAR ICE CREAMS.
Then you can put the sundae stuff on them, or not, & get as many ice creams as you want, FOR OTHERS NOT PRESENT IN THE STORE, at still a reasonable cost, WITHOUT A HASSLE, on Wednesday, or ANY day!
THEN THE DISABLED/ELDERLY, OUT IN THEIR CARS/VANS, ETC. CAN ENJOY A TREAT, WITHOUT FEELING EXCLUDED or BEING MADE 2 MOVE, OR WALK, WHEN IT'S HARD, DANGEROUS, OR PAINFUL 4 THEM 2 DO SO, just 2 get a treat, easy 4 able bodied people 2 get.
PLUS, THIS METHOD, ERASES THE RISK OF UNSTABLE DISABLED or ELDERLY (or both) FALLING DOWN, 4 ONLY $1 more per person.
It's a shame they have 2 pay double because they're mobility impaired though.
If u get a scoop of ice cream on $1 day, u get a softball sized scoop.
If u get the "large" 3 scoop sundae bar, (around $6) the scoops of ice cream r only handball sized, & the container they're put in, has no room 4 all the toppings presented there.
UPDATE: SCOOP SIZES, HAVE BEEN STANDARDIZED INTO BEING TENNIS BALL SIZED.
A 1 SCOOP SUNDAE BAR NOW COSTS $5.10.
IT'S MUCH CHEAPER, TO BUY A MULI SCOOP "BOAT", FOR SEVERAL PEOPLE, THAN INDIVIDUAL SCOOPS
So, they're like micro sundaes 4 us, but being poor & disabled, that's the cheapest way I can afford ice cream for 3 people, with the new $1 scoop day rules.
One can get only about 3 TABLESPOONS, of toppings per scoop ( in the "boats") , b4 the toppings start 2 fall off.
So the sundae bar isn't really worth it, unless u want a small treat.
There were no rainbow Jimmies on the sundae bar, & Whipped cream was just spitting out, nearly empty.
UPDATE: (about 6 months later) It was my birthday, & Jorden's Ice Cream was closed, so I reluctantly thought I'd get some micro sundaes (3 scoop buffet, with micro scoops, for $6. so 3 people, (2 which were NOT IN THE BUILDING) could enjoy a TINY treat, 4 about $2. each) here as we happened to pass it.
I was pleasantly surprised, that they actually gave us the "normal" $1 day, sized scoops, but all 3 wouldn't fit in the TINY plastic "3 scoop" boat they put them in.
So I asked if 1 could be put on a cone instead, & she said she could put it in a separate dish, which I was quite awestruck, that they would do this, as usually they don't because they think people r just trying 2 get more space 4 toppings, or they should buy separate ones 4 everyone.
I don't believe there r any vegan ice cream options, perhaps 1 variety of sorbet, which might b vegan.
UPDATE: THEY ENLARGED THEIR ICE CREAM SERVING AREA & DO CARRY AT LEAST 1 VEGAN FLAVOR (sorbet only) NOW.
6% of Americans identify as being vegan. That's 6 people, out of 100 people. There r also lactose intolerant, & dairy allergy people 2, who would like a cold treat on a hot day. I wish they had more dairy free options.
Kellerhaus, has lost it's magic for us, but maybe a tiny spark of actual enjoyment, has ignited again, since we FINALLY got a reasonable amount of treat 4 what we paid,...
Read moreTerrible!! I had been looking forward to trying this place for awhile but was very disappointed. First the girl scooping the ice cream was rude. The hot fudge was runny (looked more like chocolate sauce), the whipped cream wasn't whipped (flat and runny). When I asked to speak to the manager about the hot fudge and whipped cream the young girl said she was the manager (same girl who was scooping and ruder). I asked her if the hot fudge and whipped cream were both supposed to be runny. She said that was how their hot fudge was and that the air was needed for the whipped cream and she could "shake the machine" to see if it would come out better. I walked away puzzled. After a minute of thinking about what I wanted to do, I decided I didn't want waste my money or weight watchers points on something that terrible. I told her I wanted a refund. She said ok and handed me the $5+ back from the register. She then proceeded to talk about me to her co-workers and didn't even try to hide it. So much for customer service!! I wouldn't recommend this place. Don't waste your time or money. Next time I'll head to...
Read moreVerily, I hath visited Kellerhaus not once but twice, and each sojourn hath been a delight most rare. This establishment, nestled as if by providence in the bosom of New Hampshire’s lakeside charm, doth offer confections and curiosities that stir the soul and gladden the belly.
Upon my first ingress, the air was redolent with the sweet perfume of hand-dipped chocolates and freshly pressed waffle cones—a heavenly aroma, I dare say, rivalled only by ambrosia itself. The sundaes, which one may craft to one’s heart’s content at the famed buffet, are a joy unsurpassed, even by the finest of courtly banquets.
Twice have I returned, and twice have I departed with sack and spirit full. The wares are not merely edible delights, but heirlooms of flavor passed through generations, each bite a whisper of yesteryear.
Should thou find thyself in Weirs Beach, hie thee hence to Kellerhaus. It is no mere shop, but a temple of treats, a sanctum of sweetness, and a rare jewel in the crown of New England’s...
