Well, here it goes. A little bit about me so you know where I'm coming from on the comments. For the last 8 years I have traveled the country from city to city, here is a short list. Starting in the northeast Houlton, ME Nashua, NH York, ME Boston, MA Springfield, (most cities between) All of Rhode Island (Providence-Newport) New York & buroughs Most bigger cities down to Key West FL Accross the south New Orleans, Houston, Pheonix, to San Diego & up to Seattle. Suffice to say I have seen most of America. And I have rode most municipal transits. Its pretty obviouse what a city wants by their public transit. Lancaster PA is two things, 1st an historical city, 2nd a tourist city. The county of Lancaster is an agricultural, cultural, & tourist county. Tourism depends on the culture (mostly Amish) and agriculture is a major part of the Amish way of life and to a large extent their artisan ware too. I have lived in the city of Lancaster for a year now and ride the buses almost daily (several routes). I have found the majority of riders are the disabled, elderly, low income, & students but not many tourists. Why is there not more tourists riding the rrta more? Here are some areas they (rrta) fall short. Mobile accessibility - when you do a google maps search rrta does not exist (The majority of non US travelers use google maps) No weekend service to the train station - the majority of tourism occurs on the weekends. Over simplified route maps - need to show more cross streets & a better expanded view of the downtown area. (Separate pamphlet for each route would work much better) Yes, these things would cost $ but that would be taken care of with increased ridership. The trolly is a joke, all it is is a shuttle going from downtown to the train station & to a barely use parking area at the ballpark (Lancaster does not have a "business" district to support this). And it only runs limited during the week. Its not historic, its not a tour but it is uncomfortable. They just have it because it looks good to have one ride around the city. I don't see any official stops for this on the streets. The stops are poorly marked in general, you have to be a local to know pretty much that there is a public transit. The only reason they even get a star is its free for seniors & half for disabled. Less cars & more Public Transit= better traffic & parking. Better communication with the cities public works departments, road closures, detours, emergency work. You shouldn't need a bus driver call in "umm, we have a closed road because they are digging up the road" . The left hand of the city has no clue what the right hand is doing or does it not care? COMMUNICATION. say it with me this time COMMUNICATION. My biggest gripe is, no transit from Lancaster city to Hershey Park. Come on people, really? Two buses One leaves Lancaster at 8 am One leaves Hershey Park at 8 am One leaves Lancaster at 6 pm One leaves Hershey Park at 6pm So easy Increased tourist ridership = increased $$ Sorry if this hurts Mr...
Read moreRed Rose Transit is the worst bus service I have ever encountered. Most of the time the buses are late. The buses are always breaking down and they have no system in place to communicate to riders when they are experiencing a problem. Recently I was in a situation where I waited for my bus for over an hour before finding out it was late because it had broken down (and the only reason I knew that was because I flagged down another bus driver to ask), then none of the drivers had information as to how long we would have to wait. Meanwhile, the other riders and myself watched multiple "out of service" buses pull in and out of the station, any of which could have given us waiting passengers a ride to our destinations. I checked their Twitter page (which is suppose to provide service alerts) and it hadn't been updated in over a month. Eventually the cold weather got the best of me and I ended up calling an Uber home. I don't even know how long the other poor passengers ended up having to wait. This company is extremely unorganized and only thrives because there are no competing services around. It makes me sick that I have to give them my money every week to get back and forth from work, because they definitely do...
Read moreHello, to whom it may concern, I've been riding the rrta bus on queen street in Lancaster, pa and I've been riding on the (21 bus) that's to gap and the gentleman who drives the bus is always 5 to 8 minutes late. Now that may not seem like alot but it does effect my day. Some works may not be as strict on being punctual, but my job requires me to be on time at 6 am. Because he is always late I see myself arriving.. well most of us at 5:50 am. Some of the people who work here are a little up there with their age, so it does take them a bit to travel and they also have to walk all the way back to the end of the warehouse to clock in. It's not fair that because your station may not require your team to be on time but it does effect not only me but the people around me. I have also taken in the consideration that your team does have to take traffic and other passengers stops also. But I really dont think that's the case since it's the 1st gap bus to arrive. We are his 1st stop. Please help see to it that the gentleman who drives the 21st bus can be more punctual.
Best regards, Your...
