The Kabab Station — Restaurant in Lancaster

The food is all right, I've had better. The green beans in the vegetables are canned, you get about 50% rice and about 20% meat (a small handful) on a plate that costs $14. I feel like it's over priced for the portion. The ATMOSPHERE is what really turned me off. The guy who sat me (there's no real designated ordering area, no register to walk up to, you have to sit) hovered over me to explain the menu, and then showed me pictures of menu items in his phone. He was just there, lingering way too long. Almost the entire time I was looking at the menu, he was next to me. Just overly attentive and it made me uncomfortable. Never offered water or drinks. So this is a local Afghani style restaurant, owned and operated by the greatest family. Exceptionally warm and welcoming - the atmosphere is cozy and inviting, and the food is a fusion of many regional flavors and styles. The owner happily walked us through the menu and recommended items to us that were fantastic. I had the lamb kebabs and my wife had chicken shawarma that was served with kabuli rice - a very local afghani rice side dish. The teas were very fresh and fragrant, and I ended with a cup of freshly made Turkish coffee that was flavored with fresh cardamom. All for a very, very reasonable price. When I walked into this restaurant I felt like I was back in my grandmothers house, great seating, friendly employees, and I was so glad that we could speak their language, sadly we took it To-go because we have to go back work at Route 66. I ordered the boneless chicken kebabs and the zereshk rice, but needs a little more zereshk, and we asked for mast khiar but they did not have it but it came with mast shebent which I have never tasted before but I like this as much as like mast khiar.
