My daughters and I visited the store. The location does not give the name Beach Kings. The name on this location at the top of the address says Life is Good. So I had a difficult time finding this location online to review.
At first when I walked in the shop was so nice and looked to be welcoming. The location is very beautiful they have a lot of great souvenirs with a lot of great prices. While I was looking at some merchandise to purchase and had already picked out a couple of outfits, my daughter came to me crying telling me that the lady at the front was watching and following her around in the store and when she was going to go try on an outfit the woman asked to look at her hands. My daughter had picked a magnet to purchase so she could take home to remember her trip. The woman instead yelled at her and told her, “Where is the magnet!” My daughter got scared told her that she had already given it to me because I was going to pay for it and the lady kept staring at her and from there on she just followed her everywhere she turned inside the store. The woman is an elderly woman with Indian ethnicity. When my daughter came to me to tell me what had happened, I was done shopping and was on my way to the cash register I asked my daughter if the woman at the cash register was the one who had made her cry. My daughter said yes, so I asked the lady what the concern was and why did she yell at my daughter and why did she ask for her to give her the magnet. The lady then responded rudely and loudly “your daughter didn’t do anything all the kids always coming here and grab magnets and leave them everywhere around the store.” I then told her my daughter was 13 years old and she wouldn’t have grabbed it and put it in a different spot, she grabbed it because we were going to purchase it but she made her feel bad and made her feel like she was stealing it because after that she started following her around in the store. I told her my daughter was now crying. The woman then responded with a very rude tone voice, “you don’t have to yell at me”. I was not yelling at all, she was. I then told her my daughter is 13 years old she wouldn’t have grabbed it and put it in a different spot she grabbed it because was going to make the purchase. She was just getting louder and louder. Although I had already swiped my debit card for all the items I would purchase, I was so embarrassed that I asked her to cancel my purchase and I quickly walked out. While I was walking out she was still making loud comments then she said out loud to the customers in the store while pointing at me, “That is a bad lady!” I was so embarrassed an just left. This brought tears to my eyes since she managed to embarrass me in front of my daughters when I was simply trying to make a purchase for family back home. I did have tears in my eyes when I walked out because my daughter was still crying. Never had an establishment made me feel this way. I hope she doesn’t treat everyone this way. I left with such a bad memory of this day that had started out so great. I will never go there again when I visit, and I will make sure everyone I know hears of this bad experience, I don’t want anyone to go through this. I didn’t have the energy to explain to my daughters the woman’s behavior. We were all so sadden by all this. I just wanted to...
Read moreI live in Lauderdale by the Sea and this store had been at another location, further toward the beach on Commercial Blvd. but recently relocated to its new location in the Ace Hardware shopping strip. I don't usually go into "tourist-y" stores but yesterday a friend and I enjoyed a kind of tourist-y morning. Breakfast at Aruba, shopping at Beach King and then gelato at Pan'e Dolci Italian Bakery. I love giving my money to my town's small businesses. This Beach King location is smaller than the original one. It is light, bright, clean and run by a terrific guy named Horash (phonetic) (like Horatio but, as he said, his folks didn't want to pay for the extra vowels). Most of the clothing names are not very well known (to me), but he says a lot of the clothing he sells are made from sustainable sources; i.e., some tanks are made from re-purposed plastic water bottles. He also has a lot of clothing - dresses, zip-ups, etc. - that are UVA protectant. Prices for those items are higher. We suggested that he advertise that particular feature of the items more prominently than on just the small clothing tags so that the price would be more understandable. My friend and I are not in retail, but to us it seemed like reasonable suggestion to help him sell the more expensive stuff. Then there are the kitschy items: beach bags, coasters, kitchen towels, caps, etc., etc. Reasonably priced, but some a littler high. This was our experience and we did love it there. Regardless of your pocketbook, it's a great, great store to check out. The store is cleaned and sanitized often throughout the day and we felt very safe visiting. And, if you have any suggestions to offer Horash, he's is totally open to and appreciative of any and all. Thank you for taking the time...
Read moreSimply the best!! This is the same wonderful gift shop that used to be kitty corner to Aruba's. Same great people and wonderful selection, just in a different spot. We have family in town and every time we come for a visit, we go to Beach King. This is our 20th year shopping there. The owner is so warm and welcoming, it feels like chatting with a friend. He works hard to have a great selection and is very knowledgeable about his merchandise. I think it's the best in town. This trip I wanted to treat myself to an early birthday present. I spent way too much time trying on e. newton bracelets and couldn't quite get the combo of bracelets right. I never felt rushed and he knew so much about the product line. In the end, the bracelets he helped me pick out are terrific. I've been smiling at my wrist every since!! I wish more places...
