Gumbiner Park — Local services in Long Beach

Meh... Not at the top of my list, but not the worst I've been to. The park itself is small, but nice. It's fairly new, so the equipment is still fresh and new-looking. There is a small skate park attached, which is nice. There's always a few people practing tricks around. One major downfall though, is that there is no restroom facilities at the park, or water fountains, and no where close by with public restrooms that I'm aware of. There is also ALWAYS a large (minimum I've seen is 5...up to 20+!) Homeless presence. Not just homeless, but loud, usually arguing, sometimes physically fighting, drinking, and using any drug they can get their hands on, in plain sight, with no regard! Police drive by and DO NOTHING! My son loves to play on the jungle gym here, it's a little different than the usual, so he enjoys that...but unfortunately I try to avoid taking him here because of all the riff-raff. I've seen some wildly offensive things here! I wish that Long Beach would take care of the parks they worked so hard to have built...this one is just a few years old, if that, and it's already ruined in my eyes. What a waste of good...

I live 50 yards from this park and would give zero stars if I could. Downright dangerous to the point where you can't walk through the park much less do anything else. There was a murder there in 2020 a few months after I warned the city to close the park until homeless tent encampments and criminal activity was dealt with. 10 yrs ago we had community meetings about what this park should be, and amongst ideas suggested: community garden, dog park which would have worked, but regrettably, neither idea was voted in. It has gotten worse, with more encampmentsand spilling into...

Update from 3 years ago. It is still a homeless encampment. At present 6/29/24 there are 16 tents and probably 30 individuals. Plenty of garbage as well. I have no idea where all these people that live there go to the toilet as it appears there is none on the site. Do not send you children here to play. Today there was a shooting on 6th next to the park. Not a safe place for anyone except our politicians. Sorry no pictures. It would be dangerous to try...
