I am new to off shore fishing in southern California. I think it's safe to say that there is nothing quite like this sport-fishing culture. Those that go on the overnight and multi-day trips are mostly intense and focused fisherman. Even for those with ample deep sea experience there's no way to prepare for these trips. You have to dive in and just try to keep up. Never in my life have I met harder working people than the crew of the Toronado. Everyone from the captain (Sean #1) to the deck hands Sandab (Patrick) and Sean #2 are passionate and kind people. I approached them with endless questions and they were so helpful. They all took the time to impart their knowledge of fishing southern California. The captain loaned me his own rod when I found myself ill equipt to deal with the bluefin we were targeting. Sandab tied my knots and slowly demonstrated his technique empathizing the importance of practicing with your own gear (he too let me try his favored rod). Sean on the deck helped me time and again with finding good bait, he showed me how to hook them for different scenarios, and he quietly came over to untangle my birds nests before I caused any major tangles.
These guys live this work. They are out on the water day after day working backbreaking hours. If you are respectful, if you pay attention to their advice, and find the right moment to approach for help, you will learn a lot from both the crew and fellow anglers. We had a rough day to say the least. Some people were understandably frustrated as the swells pounded the ship and the boiling patches of tuna wouldn't even try to bite the baits. The boat was 100% full. The captain fished hard to the last minute. Despite the less than stellar day, I realized I was hooked on this socal fishing. I'm writing this review as I wait to board a ship heading out for a 3 night trip on what will be my third offshore this week! This is your go to place in the LA area for sportfishing. Thank you to the whole crew of the Toronado for your warm hospitality and your hard work. I will never forget my time on the Toronado and I look forward to seeing...

Then after another ridiculous 8 minute stop ! Decided to just get on the speaker and say were leaving dragging everyones lines to the back of the boat to create chaos . What a freaking a hole. Totally unprofessional . My first and trust me last time out on this boat and stay away from pier point landing period ....... Complained to staff at pier point said not our problem talk to the captain .Captain what a misuse of the name Stay...
I took my boys (ages 5 & 7) and my wife fishing on the So Cal. Wasn't expecting much heard mixed reviews but instead a got a lot of great help and words of encouragement from the crew. The Crew was skipper Mitch deckhands were Phil and Justin. They went above and beyond to help my family enjoy themselves fishing. They took fish off the hook which were sculpins and they are poisonous. I have been fishing for about 28 years on these boats and know how some deck hands can be. What a relief it was on the first of many tangles that the deckhand had to cut our line but retied it immediately. I did not have to stop what i was doing to fix my kids pole. Never once heard a foul word about anything from the crew. I was a profession crew ( I think this is there A crew) they should be recognized for a great job. I would highly recommend this boat with this crew to anyone. Just remember patients they are trying to get to everyone on the boat(when the counts are better they do better so they want you to catch as many fish as you can. I am happy that my kids had so much fun and look forward to fishing on the So Cal again soon. one last thing the skipper even let my boy up on the bridge to see all the stuff up their. A Crew thanks for such a wonderful time...
