Before I even start, this let me just say that I have worked in the restaurant and retail industry for over a decade. We went to Churchills for my husband's 40th birthday as he has always had good experiences there. When we came in we were greeted, seated, and ordered drinks. There was not an updated wine list so I went to their wine cabinet to review the wines that were there. We ordered a charcuterie board, my son ordered the Ribeye with a coke, and I ordered the Filet Oscar (Both $40). The service quickly went downhill when we realized we were not getting refills of coke, wine for myself, or bourbon for my husband. I ordered my filet medium rare (warm-red center) and the server did not ask my son or my daughter how they wanted their steak prepared. My husband's meal (lamb chops) came out first, a few minutes later my daughter's, a few minutes later my meal came out, and about 10 minutes after that, my son's meal came out. My first attempt at my meal, my filet was completely raw. We spoke to the server and asked her to just reheat it to about medium to be on the safe side. The steak came back out with the oscar poured over it but still very rare. We then requested them to just remove the steak and that I would just eat the sides, another employee then came out and inquired about the steak. We mentioned that we would prefer the steak to just be cooked medium so that there wasn't any further issue. The third time the steak came out it was still rare. I ended up taking the $40 meal in a to-go box as my family was already finished eating. When we received the check we were given a $280 electronic bill which included a 20% automatic gratuity. This is where this service goes above and beyond unacceptable. I watched my server sit at the bar on her phone, sent my $40 steak back twice, and was consistently having to ask for drink refills for my family and myself. In normal restaurants (even 5-star restaurants), the customary is to charge an automatic 18% gratuity for 8 or more people. I would even settle for 6 or more people. But for my family to be charged a 20% gratuity for a meal that was sent back at least two times is completely unacceptable. At that moment, I chose to be respectful and pay the bill as it was evident that there was no manager or owner available to speak to us about these issues. So at the end of the evening we paid $40 for a raw filet, and a $44 gratuity for well below acceptable service. I'm not one to complain as again I have been in the restaurant industry as well as worked in retail for fortune-500 companies but never in my life have I seen such awful service with even more ridiculous policies. If you want to charge 20% gratuity for anyone that walks into your restaurant that needs to be displayed on the menu so we at least know what to expect service-wise. Prior to this evening, my husband enjoyed coming to Churchills with his friends and fellow employees, as well as promoting this business to the other members in his chamber of commerce as well as his place of employment. I however, will not be back at this establishment and will not be recommending this restaurant in the future as I know what good customer service and hospitality is and this has been far from it. Please review the pictures below of the unacceptable cook of our steak well after being sent back and recooked...
Read moreI had the good fortune of spending Father's Day with my father and brother at the trending hotspot, Churchills on Cherry. Often when you think of a cigar lounge, brunch might not be the first thing that comes to mind, but trust me when I say Churchills on Cherry is turning that preconception on its head.
From the moment you step into this stylishly revamped downtown building, you're transported into a world of opulence, harking back to the gilded age of smoke and sophistication. The ambient lighting, maple paneling, and plush leather seating ideally create a luxurious yet welcoming atmosphere.
The star of the show, however, was their Sunday Brunch. Churchills on Cherry’s approach to brunch is thoughtful, innovative, and above all, delicious. The menu is a delightful blend of classic favorites, given a high-end twist.
The French Toast stuffed with crème cheese and fresh berries was an explosion of flavor and texture. It was both rich and light, sweet yet subtly tart. The Salmon Croquettes was a bite of the seaside in the city, blanketed with a side of southern grits and drizzled in a buttery hollandaise-like sauce. And the Shrimp and Grit, a Southern staple, was nothing short of exceptional. Cooked low and slow to draw out their creamy, earthy goodness, they were infused with rich, decadent butter, sharp cheddar cheese, and a touch of cream, making them smooth, flavorful, and utterly luxurious. Each spoonful was a testament to comfort and simplicity, creating an excellent contrast to the bold flavors of the shrimp.
The service was impeccable, with staff striking that tricky balance of being attentive without being intrusive. From the moment we walked in, we felt like honored guests rather than mere customers. Nick, our host, gave us a tour of the facility and engaged us in delightful conversation, and Chef Gerard ensured that we were utterly satisfied with our meal.
In conclusion, Churchills on Cherry created a magical confluence of world-class food, excellent service, and a wide array of quality cigars. Their Sunday Brunch is not just a meal; it's an experience that I am eager to repeat. Whether you're a cigar enthusiast or a brunch lover, this place will surely leave you...
Read moreNew to Macon and I needed a new Cigar spot to take my hubby. Found this spot on Google. At first I almost kept walking until 2 men outside stopped me and told me they are open, just use the side door and walk up the stairs. As I walked up the flight of steps it reminded me of a New York bar. ( luv it) once upstairs the environment was classy, nice couches and nice music in the background. Gave me a very nice high class vibe.
My bartender for the night was welcoming and helped us understand the menu and how to go get our cigars from the cigar room ( which had a very nice selection and not to pricey)
We ordered appetizers and drinks and she did not disappoint. I highly recommend her she was awesome and always checked up on us. At the time of payment she brought us a bill and I noticed 20 percent tip is included already in there bills and to be honest it was worth it. She was great.
(Returned on a diffrent day and I was services by a diffrent lady. Honestly was ok but seems as she was more in a hurry to go home. When I asked for the bill she handed me the hand held so I can enter a tip. No bill detail of what I was paying for just a tip screen. I than asked isn't tip already included in whatever my bill is. She said yes I pressed 0 for an additional tip. I assume she thought I was going to give her and extra tip or i didnt know tip was already included. She than just said have a good night and returned my card and a reciept. (just be cautious when paying you ask for a receipt and not double tip unless you are aware thats what you want to do.)
My first visit I give 5 stars hands down but my second it was 3 to 4.
But...
