Oakland Mall Apartments — Local services in Madison Heights

It's ok I've been staying here for almost a year now and it's a nice and quiet complex. There's eight units in each building. Some of my neighbors argue once a month. Other than that its a very clean place. However, some of the staff are easily irritated when you initiate questiins about your safety. Just a few weeks ago during the fourth of july holiday, two apartments were broken into by tampering with the locks. it looks like an inside job but no one is for sure. My apartment was one of the two that got broken into. I tried speaking with the manager Jennifer. She didn't know what else to do other that change the locks. After the break in I was unable to sleep in my apartment for almost a week. She said that this has never happened before and she didn't have any suggestions that she could do to make me feel safe and asked if I knew of any ideas. I asked if they could provide an alarm but she said I would have to get it at my own expense and that i would need to give management the code. ( remind you it looks like the break in was an inside job why would I give you the code). So any who I said well are there any consequences if i decided to move because I feel unsafe... She basically left me no choice by saying if I moved i would be responsible for the rest of the lease.... I felt like she had no concern about my safety and would rather me risk the chance of my apartmwnt getting broken into again. To me it seems like she's concerned about money more than my safety beecause she didnt even offer an alternative for the security of my unit .

Lied about false damage to withhold security deposit, only painted over water damage caused by tenant above me and replaced 20% of carpet. Claims he cleaned the flood damage but did not. Insects began to infest from water damage but never sent exterminator despite numerous requests. Sewage backed up in apartment every night but maintenance never responded in my unit, went to adjacent units instead, constant inspections and photos taken of my residence, when kitchen sink broke, no repair for 4 weeks and left without use of the kitchen.

Manager spoke down to me after avoiding any attempts to respond for over 6 weeks to phone calls and emails daily. Claims all emails are deleted every week and ignored all evidence sent to him. Neighbor above was violent, made false noise complaints against me and any attempt to resolve the situation with the office resulted in hung up phone calls and required police intervention instead.

Stay away. There are hundreds of apartment complexes in the area, all are better than this. Had a maintenance man express his reasons for leaving the company with me during my improperly repaired water damage - it was due to the issues this...

I've found the maintenance staff here to be extremely responsive and helpful. My A/C unit was old and malfunctioning when I moved in, so they replaced it right away for me. I just called for a broken closet door, and they're sending someone over in the next hour or so. The apartments are very clean (no bugs).

Some cons - it's super hot most of the year, because the A/C units can't cool the entire apartment. The kitchen/dining room is a swamp. I couldn't use my stove all summer long. Also, there's no outgoing mail slot (just a little complaint). The walls are paper thin, but I suppose that's to be expected in an apartment (especially when you're neighbors scream at each other all hours of the night).

Overall, I would recommend the complex to a young person getting their first or second apartment. If you're a bit further into adulthood, you may want to...
