Tienda Mexicana — Restaurant in Madison Heights

The service was enough to make me not go back. We sat down and the atmosphere was pretty nice at first, when the lady took our order one of us asked if the chicken was grilled and she said "yes sliced" so we assumed it was. She brought the food out and it was shredded marinated chicken which the person who ordered it could not eat. She expressed that and the girl just kind of shrugged her shoulders, to which we asked her if we could get grilled chicken and she said they don't offer that for any of the meals other than one. She didn't offer to get us anything else and she didn't offer to take it off the bill at all. She again just shrugged her shoulders and said I can grab a manager but that's it. Another girl walks up with a way bigger attitude and says the same thing but doesn't offer any way to work with us at all. Finally a nicer woman walks up, I'm assuming maybe manager or just another waitress, but yet again doesn't offer another choice or to take it off the bill( mind you we didn't touch it) so nobody comes back to the table and we finally just say whatever we will pay and leave. The only thing we took off the plate was the beans and then we paid and left. The other person we were with whose meal this was called them after the fact to make sure the manager was aware of what happened because we don't actually know who we spoke to. The woman who answers the phone was so disgusting and rude before she even knew it was us. Had an attitude and refused to grab the manager and when our friend explained the situation all she said was "don't call me after the fact and you took the beans off the plate." We took them at the very end because she didn't offer to take it off the bill and we did try to fix it but they ignored it. RUDE SERVER.

The food tasted phenomenal; great tasting tacos, quesadillas, elote, horchata 5/5. We were having a good overall experience, despite the many many fruit flies that we were battling the entire time while dining.

However, we had food left over that we wanted to take home and we asked one of the servers for two small foam cups, with lids (since our server was busy). That’s when our server came up to us and asked us, “What do you want the cups for?! For what!?”, with an extreme attitude and sounded very annoyed with this request. When I told him my friends want to pack up the guac and whatever is left over from their meal (since we ordered so much food). He kept questioning what it was for, and the way he was asking was rude. I asked him why is it an issue, are the small foam cups that expensive he can’t give us two? He responded with his continued attitude, “Yes, it is actually!!”. He was so rude, and made us feel extremely uncomfortable when we were extremely polite with him and ordered a large order. He could have went about it differently and kindly asked what we’d like to pack up so that he can accommodate the proper to go containers. Unfortunately that was not the case.

It’s a shame that a simple request like asking for two small foam cups (worth pennies) would cause such a negative customer service experience. The server should have more respect for paying customers, and not make them feel uncomfortable and publicly embarrass them...

Total score is 3.9. They almost got a 4.0. I like this place and have visited several times. Chicken tacos were a little spicier than normal. Good for me but my wife couldn’t eat them. The 3 pictures you see are rice / beans and 15 soft shell tacos. Total cost with no tip was just over $ 51.00. I ordered a side of beans and rice. For some reason they came in the same box and in my opinion they are a little on the small side. Picture below shows it shifted a little. As far as tacos go they are bigger than most authentic restaurants and fill you up quickly. They put a decent amount of meat inside these tacos. This place also usually puts cheese in between the two tortillas for some reason today mine had no cheese in any of them. I wanted to order chips and cheese today. Guess what they don’t sell chips and cheese here. Seems weird not to me. As I mentioned I ate here many times. Never noticed they didn’t have it. The restaurant is clean and colorful along with groceries on the right side. Staff was nice. The kid who took my order said 5-10min. I thought that was quick turnaround when he said it but I was the only one there and it was 3:00pm or so. Ended up being 25-30 min. Overall decent experience. Food and staff were average today.
