Swagat Indian Cuisine — Restaurant in Madison Heights

It's easy to mimic all the 5-star reviews for this restaurant because it's all true, but the especially delightful news that needs to be placed high up in a long-form review is the Everyday Lunch Buffet - this will become a once-a-week habit for me and my adult sons, and that will be true for you too once you try this place, so look for me and my sons who will be sitting at that table where the 30-ish men are moaning to the 60-year-old fossil that they "can't do this every week". On our first visit me and my wife did post-buffet plate meals; she got Butter Chicken and I got Chettinad (coconut) Chicken, starting with a vegetable samosa appetizer (with the usual sauces), and we split the Goes With options of Naan Bread or Rice for the plate orders. Amazing! We ordered an extra side of Naan. Also amazing. And because we had no idea how generous the portions would be, we ended up boxing half of everything we ordered, taking it back to our adult son who was staying with us for the weekend. He devoured it like a Death Row Convict devours his Last Meal, and I could not blame him. And the Service was attentive to the point where we felt guilty (but the owner was training a new wait staffer, so it's understandable). Folks, let me be blunt - we need to patronize this place early and often, to reinforce what is true - that they are doing EVERYTHING right. If we don't, they'll start making changes to increase table-traffic or economize on the food waste from the everyday buffet. We've seen it at all our (former) Favorite Indian places. Having eaten here 3 times in the last month, I can say I'm pleasantly surprised with Swagat! Despite the small storefront, they offer a daily lunch buffet which is very reasonably priced. The selections rotate, so you might have palak paneer one week and chicken biryani the next. Some selections stayed each time though, such as the butter chicken or naan.

The spice levels were varied, which I think is a good thing. My husband cannot handle much heat ("baby mouth"), but I really like things with a kick, and we both found dishes to enjoy. The food was hot and flavorful, and the service was friendly and fast.

The staff was very friendly but unfortunately my food was cold (the sauces were even frozen) I did an online order pick up and by the time I got back to the hotel (which is Doubletree on the same road just about 10 minutes away but they don’t have a microwave for me to heat this) everything was cold and I also didn’t get any napkins/disposable silverware. I tried calling but it was dinner rush. I also reached out via their Facebook but never got any help. Naan bread was delicious but I was super bummed...
