I am a 41 year old male and I previously received excellent Botox from a talented physician at UM's Dept of Dermatology and Plastic Surgery. However, I was tempted to cheat on them with Arviv Medical Aesthetics after I came across a Groupon for 20 units of Botox for a great promotional price per unit. I soon learned this would be a mistake.

My experience at Arviv left me feeling a bit uneasy to put it politely. When I met with the Arviv nurse practitioner, I stated what great Botox I received previously from UM and how they only gave me very light Botox ("baby Botox"). I then handed her my electronic medical record to view which showed the exact distributions they used and which I had been very satisfied with. To my surprise, the NP went off on an extended rant about how "there's no such thing as baby botox! People come in here asking for that and it doesn't exist!" My UM doctor (who received his medical education from NYU and Columbia) had given me only 32 units for glabella, forehead, and crows feet. He had been clear I needed on very minimal injections. However, the Arviv NP insisted I needed at least 60 if not more and expressed disbelief that my previous botox lasted several months. This struck me as a deceptive gaslighting tactic to get me to be self conscious and buy way more units than I needed. Turned off by her aggressive sales pitch, I decided to stick with the 20 units I purchased through my Groupon to save my wallet and face some grief. I was thankfully able to get her to follow the UM doctor's directions for my glabella and forehead, but she was pouty about it. She left me with some light bruising on my forehead which cleared up in a few days. Two weeks out, my results look totally fine, as I knew they would with that dosage.

Overall, I got the distinct impression that Arviv puts the up-sale ahead of patient satisfaction or needs. Aggressive upselling of more neurotoxin doses than a patient wants or needs seems like an ethical issue to me. Am I satisfied with the final results of my Botox? Yes. Would I go back to Arviv for more? No. I just don't trust that they have my best...

Nicole is AMAZING. Nicole was gentle and went slowly with my treatment plan. I’m going to say it again. She is amazing.
