My husband and I came to see Christa at Pilates in the Grove many years ago and took a few classes which we really enjoyed but never followed through on. I started coming to Pilates in the Grove regularly during the pandemic since it was a great way to get exercise and not have to walk through a large gym. It's definitely been a game changer for me. I feel more fit than I have in over 20 years and the instructors are all great! They offer a nice schedule of classes, some more classically based and some more contemporary or combinations of both. The instructors are always open to talk about any physical concerns or even a question about an exercise. I don't want to tell anyone about Claudia's class because it's already hard to get in, lol. She always knows how to push you just enough, but also makes class fun. She does a great combination of exercises and is very good at guiding you step by step. Teri is a superb instructor and at the very beginning of my lessons, she was my main instructor. She knows pilates backwards and forwards and tries to challenge people to learn about it,by asking questions related to what we are doing. She is well versed in classical pilates and trained as a ballerina so she incorporates bits of that in every class. I have also had the opportunity to have some PT sessions with Lisa(including a dry needling session) which were so helpful in figuring out how to deal with some long lingering back pain. "Z" is not only a great pilates instructor, but she also is a wonderful shiatsu/thai masseuse! I leave there feeling like a million bucks! The Coconut Grove branch is a great space that feels very zen and has private space for lessons, physical therapy/massage and red light therapy. It also has a large classroom for up to 10 clients for group classes. Either Arielle or Tiffani are always there at the front to greet you. They are both so friendly and helpful and are very competent to handle the many clients asking for help with classes, parking validation cards, setting up...
Read moreI was very enthusiastic about the idea of making Pilates part of my life. During the private lessons I predicted that it was what my body and mind needed. I never suspect that it was going to be totally different in group classes. In almost every class experience, I was corrected in one way or the other around 10 times. I blame it on myself for not following instructions correctly and fast. Sometimes after I corrected my position, the count or specific activity was over. I didn’t know what to do, but levels of frustration started rising. Repetition of the same situation in the four group classes, turn me somehow frustrated, up to the point that I didn’t enjoy it anymore. After the last experience, one of my classmates gave me some support, and recommended me to change the professor. But frankly I didn’t think that was going to help. After so many calls specifically by my name to do things better, I lost my interest. At this point, my classmates recognize that a little more patience, was needed.Just imagining that my name was going to be called so many times all the time, stimulated and recognized my classmates empathy, I decided it was not worth to pay for the stress I was going through in every class. A little more support was needed, but I somehow suspect I was not going to get it. With my inability of realizing that I couldn’t asume the correct position in the machine before the counting was over, I was frustrated, and the experience made me more affected and stressed than the benefits I was supposed to experience. I give myself and your agency thanks...
Read moreAka Nancy: I can't say enough good things about my experience here at Pilates in the Grove. I have been seeing Dr. ALEX TERPOS (she is a Physical Therapist with a Ph.D as well as a a trained Pilates teacher) twice a week. I have been to many places to help with the pain in my hip and back, it had been going on for over a year. I am now pain free. My posture is better, my arthritis pain is gone and that annoying hip pain gone too. I am in great shape. I just started group classes with Dr. Galmarini. She is very nice and I feel like I get a good workout in her class. She watches over us and makes corrections. I have taken Pilates at many locations and some of the teachers have been mean. Here I find everyone is nice to me and I feel welcome even at the front desk Kelsey is a joy. I have been going here for 6 months. I will not stop because for someone older it has been a miracle for me -- thank you Dr. Terpos for making me confident enough to feel good and strong. I think you understand all my aches and problems and you are very perceptive to figure out the best routine for me to feel better. Alex TERPOS, I think you are a lovely person as well as a skilled...
