I've never left a negative review before, but I just paid $145 for a lock-picking service that made my lock unusable.
This past Sunday, I accidentally locked my keys inside my apartment, so the kind front desk manager of my building reached out to Quickly Locksmith to have a technician come and open my unit. After a routine lock-pick - which the technician, Santos, told me causes no damage as the process is essentially the same as using a key - everything seemed perfectly fine and Santos left. However, when I tried to unlock my apartment later that day, I discovered that my key - the only key I own for the apartment - no longer fit inside the lock.
I was surprised and confused, so I reached back out to Quickly Locksmith and the operator expressed his confusion as well, reiterating the fact that a routine lock-pick shouldn't result in damage to a lock. A few hours later, Santos came back to my apartment to inspect the lock.
After he tried my key in the lock (which had never been remotely difficult in the past 5 months I've been in this apartment - no friction, no wiggling needed, etc.) Santos concluded that the key and cylinder must be old, it was inevitable that they stopped working, and it couldn't have anything to do with the lock-picking he did earlier that day.
He insisted the cylinder needed to be replaced and refused to acknowledge the fact that there'd never been the slightest issue whenever I locked/unlocked my door in the past. He wanted me to pay full price ($180) for the installation of a new cylinder, lowering the cost to $145 when I questioned having to pay full price to fix a problem that didn't exist before his previous services.
I'll be the first to admit that I don't know much about locks. But at the end of the day, even if you remove all possible interpretations and just look at the facts, I had a perfectly functioning apartment lock and key that had never had the slightest problem, and it was only after what was supposed to be a simple lock-picking that suddenly my key no longer fits inside the lock.
Other than what happened later, Santos seemed perfectly nice and professional when he came out to unlock my door -- if it wasn't for the fact that I now need to install a whole new lock, this would've been a very different review. But after already paying $145 for a simple, 5-minute lock-pick (which was already a lot more than I - or anyone else I've spoken to about it - would've expected) it's impossible to justify paying another $145 just to fix a problem that the first service caused.
I'll be informing my building of what happened and recommending that both they and everyone else I know avoid the risk of experiencing what I did and just use another company for any...
Read moreI would NEVER recommend this service. I spoke with David, and he quoted me 20 minutes. 30 minutes later I called and said I didn't need the service, he said I called him 10 min prior, and I said no, it had been over 30 minutes and that I cancel, and hung up. He called me back and yelled at me and told me he knew EXACTLY who I was and that he would come get me to force me to pay. To be clear, I am female and he has access to my building as the locksmith on file. COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE to be threatened by him, when he could not keep his original time frame. No apologies for being later than expected, but a straight you cannot cancel, I know exactly who you are and I will come there and GET YOU TO FORCE YOU TO PAY! Pretty scary for someone to say that to a customer, female especially. I will be SURE TO TELL EVERYONE, including my building management, this is how I was treated.
David-thank you for confirming my position about your attitude towards humanity and your customers-if it's not your way, then everyone else is crazy. If you thought I was crazy, why did you call to apologize moments after I posted this review? In addition, the building met with you and I am happy to notice no Quickly Locksmith cars in our car park much since this incident. You have a bad reputation among the residents of this building and you clearly need a refresh on dealing with...
