We had been frequent visitors to the previous Pottery Barn outlet in Alameda (with us coming all the way from the Sacramento region), and were completely disappointed when they decided to close that location. Some of the deals we were able to obtain at that location were absolutely amazing, especially on some incredible furniture pieces. So, when we heard that PB had opened up this new location, we were ecstatic, and that was in spite of it being even further away for us.
Well, we happened to visit this Milpitas location yesterday (Oct 13) and we can unanimously say the following:
IT WAS A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!
The space is small compared to the last PB Outlet. It is in a mall, which inherently means the pricing is going to be adjusted to account for more expensive real estate. The selection was quite poor. If you are looking simply for items that went on sale online at some point, this is your place. Do not expect outlet pricing, however. The prices here are exactly online sale prices. For example a Cozy Teddy throw blanket, which normally retails for $199 online at PB, was 40% off at this outlet. The actual "real time" sale price on PB site yesterday was $109. Yes, the outlet was more expensive than their online inventory.
Bottom line, this location is a joke! Hard pass on this location, especially considering we drove 2hr and 45 min to get their, one-way. PB you have missed the mark on this completely. I would not recommend this location as an outlet to anyone. It is a "sale price" location only, and even then the you might get better sale prices on their primary eCommerce site. The same goes for the Williams-Sonoma and West Elm "outlets", which share the space with...
Read moreToday at Pottery Barn, I had a very unpleasant experience. My child briefly sat on a sofa, and a staff member immediately came over to adjust the pillows and told us we were not allowed to sit. She also told another Indian woman the same thing. After I had my child get down and looked around, I noticed many other customers sitting on sofas, including a white man right in front of her, yet she did not approach them. Even after we stood up, the staff member continued to watch us.
The store only had signs indicating that shoes should not be placed on the sofas, and only a few sold display sofas had “Do Not Sit” signs, which we did not sit on. If there had been a clear rule, we absolutely would have followed it.
Being singled out and watched in this way felt discriminatory and unacceptable. This behavior is completely inappropriate and left us...
Read moreI visited yesterday and was really impressed. Items were organized and neat, staff were friendly and helpful, and the prices were great.
We came looking for a few specific items, which we didn’t find, but I know that’s the case with outlet stores. If you’ve just moved or remodeled and need a bunch of stuff, this would be a great spot. We’ll be back again on our hunt.
And I appreciated the parents keeping an eye on their kids and making sure they were well behaved. I did see some misbehaved kids climbing on sofas, playing with vanities, ripping tags off, and parents did nothing to stop them. But that’s on parents, not on staff.
All in all, I was impressed with the large selection and I’ll be back next time I’m in...
