I was a bit nervous to go here but with Alchemy closing in MN, I needed to find a new workout place where I felt challenged and fun. I went here sorta on a whim, thinking âoh itâs a chain isnât it?â (âweâll get to that) and not really sure whether I would like it or not. I wasnât per se looking for âextreme bodyshapingâ either, but I needed to do something and I needed to do it with other people otherwise I wouldnât do it.
Well, no surprise based on the stars, but I absolutely love it. It doesnât feel like a chain and itâs really just a franchised brand in the name and methods. But the actual owner of this North Loop location is local, heavily personally hands-on involved, and often onsite. Youâll likely meet them at some point if you attend a class. They happened to be there on my first day of class and they may or may not teach a few classes here and there from time to time. I was also lucky to experience this as well and theyâre a great instructor too. They mentioned their background is in Tae Kwan Do and the Farrellâs method has a similar basis from my understanding.
Overwhelmingly, I can tell the team at this location and the owner are passionate about welcoming people into the space from all different backgrounds, experiences, and ability levels. The overall community atmosphere is noticeable and for this area specifically the classes have some of the most diverse participants/attendees in terms of representation as well (age, gender, race, ethnic background, etc). I tried a lot of different gyms in the area. This was noticeable and makes for a good representative cross-section of the neighborhood. Thatâs not common at other gyms nearby.
So if youâre looking for a gym thatâs locally owned and smaller business, it really is both at this location, and bonus that itâs super welcoming to everyone. Those were my main points and it checks them.
The classes have also been a great value for me, and I continue to be impressed by the desk support staff and instructors. I think they do a great job of providing friendly support, a clean space, and a workout thatâs hard but accessible. Thatâs tough to do with varying ability levels for kickboxing.
And it is definitely kickboxingâŠlot of kicking. Lot of boxing. Expect to hit and kick the bag and follow combos at a moderately fast pace. My first few classes i struggled a bit with recall and using my short term working memory (ADHD) so be aware that can be a frustration. But over time I got better at this and it has become much easier to remember combinations.
That being said if you can keep up and even if youâre not doing it 100% correct 100% of the time, youâre still getting a killer workout, a good stress relief, and maybe having...
Read moreHonestly, there are still days that I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror and don't recognize myself. I can assure you, wholeheartedly, that this is the program that changed my life. For that, I will be forever grateful.
I was someone who always exercised at a gym. I was a nameless member who went through the motions of completing a haphazard, aimless workout; never seeing the results that I wanted. I didn't understand my body, and I definitely didn't know how to create meaningful change. Nutrition coaching was never an offering unless I wanted to pay ungodly amounts of money over and above my membership fee. For years, my weight and self esteem were unstable. Then I found Farrell's.
So what's different about Farrell's Extreme Body Shaping - North Loop? It's an unbelievably supportive environment. It is a community and we are all in it together. Your success, is our success. When we succeed, we celebrate those milestones together. Casey, the owner, and Sarah, the manager, will know you by name and are invested in your victories. Nutritional coaching is a crucial part of the program and will be thoughtfully taught. There are always challenges to keep us engaged, accountable, and motivated. The focus is not on the scale but changing body composition and feeling strong and healthy.
To date, I have lost 70 lbs. My body composition has completely shifted. My body fat percentage has dropped from 34 to 17%. I have gained many pounds of muscle. My body is now capable of things that I once only imagined - I now consider myself an athlete. I don't think I would have found this person I have become without Farrell's.
If you want to transform your life. This is the...
Read moreI haven't worked out or had any real physical exercise in 25 years. I turned 51 halfway through the 10 week bodyshaping class. I had no idea what to expect from the class or if I could even make it through the entire session. I'm happy to say that I have 4 weeks left of this session and truly believe that I would not have made it this far if I had taken this course anywhere else. Farrells is more than just a place to work out. Its a community of like minded individuals that feel like an extension of your family. The instructors are amazing. They are always available, friendly, knowledgeable, courteous, compassionate and full of energy. They make you want to be a better version of yourself. You leave class feeling the workout and you find yourself wanting to come back for more. The instructors motivate you but don't intimidate you. I honestly can say I don't think I would have made it through another class if I were to do it anywhere else. Casey has found a way to make getting back into shape easy. No matter what you look like on the outside Casey along with the instructors make you feel good on the inside.. Not once did I ever feel out of place or feel like I didn't fit in. I look forward to continuing my journey at Farrell's, even if i have to continue it online... This has been a great experience...
