I have the highest respect for the Oceanside Spa and its workers. I have just posted similar words elsewhere, because if you're reading this I consider it important to say, both for you as a potential customer and for the incredibly hard working people at the Oceanside Spa. I have gone to this Spa regularly since the month they opened. I have come to know every worker there, past and present. The ladies are uniformly professionally trained, conscientious, courteous, and motivated. I have never been disappointed, indeed, I maintain high expectations and they always achieve them. Every masseuse. In fact Lisa the manager has currently sacrificed by going short-handed to support a new worker to attend months of training. What I observe from some reviews is that some people don't seem to consider that these ladies haven't the luxury of free time to study English. However, Lisa the manager helps fund them to receive formal training and certification. This is seldom the case elsewhere. She enforces high standards, and equally importantly, treats her people very well, like family. Unlike some Asian spas where workers get little more than their tips, the Oceanside workers get a much greater portion of your fee. This exemplifies leading, caring, integrity, and working hard for each dollar. They earn every cent if it, and go home with tired arms each night. their margin is small. They will never get rich from this, especially given the costs in this city. Underwhelmed? Then go to the swanky places, spend $250, and get no better than what these hard working ladies provide for you, at one fourth the price. I have come to know Lisa to be an exceptionally compassionate, caring manager, and it shows. The Spa is as spotless as can be. There would never ever be a hint of impropriety or illegality - or laziness. And I've never, ever heard any of them solicit anyone for a tip. I respect Lisa and her staff such that I understand their sadness and perplexity if a customer departs and later disses them in a review over an issue of which they were not even aware, and which could easily have been adjudicated. Not firm enough? Say something! I do. Too firm? Say something! I do. She doesn't speak English well? No kidding! I use my cell phone translator. She uses oil? No kidding. Say something! Before! She gets on the table with your leg between her knees to reach your neck? No kidding! Put yourself in their shoes. For ten hours. Deep tissue. One must wonder how a customer can visit a different spa in a different city, with a different ethnicity, for the first time, say nothing proactively, and implicitly expect an identical experience. I communicate ahead with my masseuse at Oceanside, every time. I suggest that as users of their service, sometimes we fail to perceive them simply as regular people - in a foreign culture, just trying to improve their life. Perhaps it never even occurs to us. It does and has, to me, for more than 40 years, on five different continents. If it hasn't yet been made clear, I trust, admire and respect these ladies, and their integrity. I challenge you to go there and see for yourself - and communicate graciously. I stand behind every word...
Read moreAfter taking some time to gather my thoughts and recover from a traumatic experience my sister and I had at a massage location, I feel compelled to share our story. What was meant to be a relaxing experience turned into a distressing ordeal when two male massage therapists behaved inappropriately towards us. Throughout the session, I could feel the males' groin area making contact with my hands, arms, legs, and other areas, adding to our discomfort. We felt uneasy as they touched us inappropriately, focusing on areas that made us extremely uncomfortable. I even had to ask one of them to adjust my underwear as it was being moved too low. The situation escalated when one of the therapists positioned himself on top of me with my leg caught between us. I immediately halted the session, only to realize that my sister was also enduring a similar distressing experience.
Despite our attempt to report the incident to the staff at the front desk, they seemed dismissive of our concerns. Feeling helpless, we decided to seek help from the authorities and filed a police report at the Monterey police department. I urge others to steer clear of this massage location to prevent anyone else from going through the same ordeal my sister and I experienced. It is essential to prioritize the safety and well-being of women in...
Read moreThis is the worst massage place I’ve ever been too. First we enter the room, and it’s old and did not smell good. There was no candles, incense, no lavender… The energy was off, they did not communicate and ask us what we wanted done for our massage, or even areas of emphasis of what we would like to have. Just very disappointing especially since I rely heavily on ratings don’t be fooled by this 4.9. The door was open a significant amount of time while we were getting our massages, there were people talking loud, laughing loud and they did not tell them to be quiet. At the very end they did not massage our faces or necks in the front and they said we had to pay for a 90 minute massage to have that done, which is crazy and I’ve never heard of that before. Finally the worst part of it all happen was when the lady was not satisfied with our tip that they did not even deserve, and she wanted my mom to add more tip, by having her be charged twice. I will never ever go back to this...
