TJ MAXX Customer Complaint,
Please share my story regarding my unpleasant shopping experience with store manager Karen S. McLean-Cole at the TJ MAXX store located in Morrow Georgia today September 20, 2016. I was attempting to return a purchase I made this past Saturday, September 17, 2016. I made the purchase with two forms of payment a VISA gift card and my personal VISA debit card. I provided the receipt and VISA debit card that was used for the purchase, but the cashier was told to issue a TJ MAXX gift card to me. I requested the return be processed to my personal VISA card that I provided and was told the store manager would be needed.
Karen had to be called twice and paged once before she arrived to the check-out area. The cashier met Karen at the counter and explained the situation. Karen immediately stated in a demeaning tone “What you’re going to do is either take the TJ MAXX gift card or take your items back with you!”. I tried to explain that I had also used my VISA debit card to make the purchase that is also listed on the receipt. Karen abruptly interrupted me and stated “WE ARE NOT DOING THIS TODAY!” and then looked at the cashier and said “AS A MATTER OF FACT WHERE ARE HER ITEMS?”. The cashier pointed to my items and Karen shoved the items back into my shopping bag and pushed the bag to me on the counter. Her behavior was unexpected and it totally caught me off guard. I asked her for her name and the corporate number. She stated that I did not need her name and to give customer service the Morrow store location. She then handed me a card with her name and the Morrow store number only. I asked for the corporate number and she rattled it so quickly as to keep me from being able to remember the numbers. I asked politely if she could write it on the card because I did not have a pen. I held my hand out to give her the card and she then tried to pass me the pen as if she did not want to write the number down. After a few moments, she grabbed the card and wrote the number down. After she handed the card back to me she abruptly walked off.
I called customer service and explained the situation and the fact that my complaint was more about the way I was treated by Karen, than the return at this point. The customer service representative asked me to hold while he called the store to ask Karen to put the return on my VISA debit card. He returned after about 5 minutes and stated that she refused to process the return to my VISA debit card and that we would have to escalate the issue to the district manager. I have escalated this issue to the next customer service tier representative Seth who will report my incident with the district manager.
Another customer stopped me and asked if I was ok and stated that she had a negative experience with Karen as well.
I will no longer shop with TJ MAXX or any affiliated store and I am closing my TJ MAXX rewards credit card. As consumers that keep retailers afloat, we should never be subjected to such unacceptable behavior from store managers and/or sales associates.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you make a purchase with a gift card (VISA, MASTERCARD, etc…) keep the gift card unless you do not mind receiving a TJ MAXX gift card which forces you to spend your money with TJ...
Read moreI had an unpleasant experience at this store and will not be returning . I picked up four items from the clearance section, but when I got to the register, the cashier began peeling back each red sticker, checking serial numbers, and moving extremely slowly—almost a minute per item. It felt more like an interrogation than a checkout.
What made it worse was that none of the other cashiers were doing this. My sister, who was ahead of me with her own clearance items, went to a different register and was treated normally—no excessive scrutiny, no sticker peeling. The contrast was glaring and made me feel profiled, as if I were being suspected of theft simply for shopping clearance.
I spoke with the manager (she said her name was Jewel), who confirmed this was store policy. Yet one item wasn’t honored as clearance because the cashier claimed the sticker wasn’t supposed to be there. That was especially frustrating and embarrassing.
I suggested to the manager that if sticker discrepancies are such a concern, they should be addressed while items are still on the rack—not when customers are at the register being subjected to what feels like a mini-investigation.
I left feeling humiliated and unwelcome. The only reason I completed the purchase was to have proof of the experience. I won’t be returning to this location, and I hope TJ Maxx reconsiders how they handle these situations. No customer should be made to feel like a suspect for simply...
Read moreIf I could give 0 stars I would. The cashier Charity (from Africa with the pretty brown skin and curly hair) was so rude to me. I greeted her, and she seemed so irritated. She scoffed when my total came up. I even asked her if she was having an ok day because she seemed so agitated with me. She mumbled, “You sure are spending a lot of money in here.” Is this not a business? Is this not a place in which shoppers are supposed to spend? I have spent over $1600 in TJ Maxx this week alone on shoes, coats, designer perfumes, and the like because I love the deals so; and it’s always been a lovely experience overall. However, after her being so mean and rude, I plan on taking everything back that can be returned. I asked her if she was having an ok day because I myself was recently involved in a 7 car pileup due to someone being careless, resulting in the loss of lives. So I understand how bad a day can be, especially since I worked retail in the past. I was treated so poorly, and I honestly don’t care to ever shop in store nor online with TJ Maxx or its...
