Books-A-Million — Local services in Nashville-Davidson

Me and my boyfriend have been to this location a lot because it’s nearby, they have a good selection of merch, and we try to support brick and mortar stores when we can. Their books are almost always significantly more expensive than Amazon, BUT they do have a sales section where we have gotten some good deals on books.

Lo and behold, there is a specific book I want that Amazon does not sell, but books a million has in stock. They were the only store around who had it physically in store.

The online price had it listed for $17.50. But when I go in, it says $19.99. I ask the cashier if they price match their website and he says NO. If I want to get the $17.50 price, then I have order it online, select “Pick up in store”, wait 15 minutes for it to pop up in his computer, and then he’d hand it over. Of course, I have to jump through all these hoops to buy a book he was currently holding.

No wonder these book stores are struggling! I told him to keep the book, and in the parking lot I ordered it for $13 on Walmart with free shipping. Sure I’ll have to wait a week, but it saves me like $10 after tax.

“GO HERE BEFORE BARNES & NOBLE!! Thanks, Tom!” - As a single mom to a one yr old & a very social 13 yr old, I’m constantly short on time. I was in a rush and looking for 5 specific books on my lunch break for my 730a-530p job here. Tom, at the front desk immediately offered to help by entering the books in, and he took his time looking each up, patiently waiting on me to write down the details of where they were in the store. At the end of my errand, he also took the time to let me know, while checking me out, about the membership, their shipping for free from the warehouse to the store or to my house, etc. I told him about getting used because of my tight budget and he was incredibly nice and professional as well as understanding and not judgmental at all. The store was super clean and well organized. The only reason I didn’t give it five stars was because of the prices. Honestly, I think all prices everywhere have gone up, but these prices were definitely lower… MUCH lower than Barnes & Noble!! SO I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND GOING...

Bit of a shabby looking location from the outside. Inside is nice clean and peaceful. Somewhat limited selection of science fiction and fantasy novels. HUGE selection of Bibles and Christian lit. They also have a good selection of kid's books puzzles and games. The Young adult section is bit mixed up and sorta bleeds over into regular fiction. If you have a specific book in mind might be best to ask. The employees have all been pretty helpful and knowledgeable about locations. It's just frustrating to find the 3rd book in a trilogy but never the first. I will say the new #booktok section is awesome and a great way to find trending literature that's not just following the NYT best seller list. Overall not a bad spot to browse but they are kind of too big a chain to be a local bookstore I'd go out of the way to support and they are almost always more expensive than resellers on Amazon.
