What a nightmare this place is! The owner will talk to you like you’re a child, brag about himself, avoid answering direct questions. Something is very off with the clerk/owner named Joey.
My boyfriend and I stopped by Peacock Jewelers last week to browse wedding ring sets, an experience you’d hope to be fun and memorable. Hillsboro Village has been a long-time hang of mine, so I felt good about spending money in an area I love - and Peacock has a lot of great reviews, so it made sense to shop there. The first clerk who helped us was friendly and attentive, but seemed new, so the owner (I gathered his name is Joey) stepped in. This is where it all went totally bizarre.
Every question I asked Joey was met with a condescending response and never a real answer. He assured us their protection policy is so great, I could smash a ring and they’d fix it. When I asked if the insurance came with the ring or if it was a separate purchase, he responded in a strikingly rude tone, “You’re a smart girl, what do you think?” He never did give me a response after a short tangent about a computer he bought at Best Buy that was replaced with insurance.
When I found a ring a really liked, I asked if he had the same setting in white gold (the one in the case was yellow gold) so I could see if I liked it better. He responded, “Yes,” and there was no follow up, although I was obviously implying I’d like to see it. So I asked, “Okay, can I see it?” Joey responded, “It’s in my vault, I can’t open it because security won’t let me. I have $8 million dollars in the vault.” And then nothing else. No offer to invite me back the next day when he has it out, no images online to show me, just ended it with an odd humble brag and totally irrelevant mention of $8 million.
I found another ring I liked, I asked about the center stone, to which Joey went on about how that’s a this-n-that diamond and he doesn’t sell them, but they’re the best diamonds and he collects them. And then tells me he has stacks of stones as tall as him back in the vault, all kinds of stones, but makes no lead in on trying to show me or sell me a stone for the setting I like. So I can’t have what’s in the ring I like and I’m not offered anything to replace it. Again, not at all helpful information following the display of pride. So awkward, I should have run out right then, but apparently I’m a glutton for punishment so I kept looking in the case.
I then asked about the green stones in some of the rings. Not familiar with the stone, I asked what the hardness rating was. Joey responded, “If it breaks, that insurance policy we offer will cover it.” NO ANSWER to what the hardness rating of the stone is.
We wanted information, guidance, to feel confident that our jeweler was knowledgeable about what he was selling us - not to be talked to like children by someone who only wants to talk about himself in unhelpful ways. By the time we walked out of Peacock we were both disappointed and bursting to talk about how freaking weird that whole situation was. When I got home I did a little internet research on the shop and owner. This is apparently the same shop that was across the street, Village Jewelers. There are several 1-star ratings by people who seemed to have the same insulting experience we had. Even if I’d seen those reviews before paying them a visit, I’d think they were just overreacting to mediocre service. But now that I’ve lived it, I can confirm that the service at this store, at least with Joey, is epically terrible.
I’d also advise potential shoppers to look into the legal matters this store owner has been involved in. He doesn’t seem to be a very good person, according to local...

Read moreHorrible experience. I have never written a review for an establishment being from New York City/New Jersey I am never inclined to leave reviews because of the thick skin you acquire over the years. In this case, I felt it was necessary after reading other reviews. While making my purchase I had to walk out as the older man helping me (I assume the owner but I am not entirely sure) was extremely rude and disrespectful. He answered my questions with a demeaning attitude and made it seem as if I was a burden to him. While reading other reviews I can see that he often responds with a god driven response, I myself am not very religious but I do have some faith and religion, so in that case I will too respond like he does. Luke 6:31 says "And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise". This man did the opposite as I believe that he would've reacted differently if I treated him the way he treated me. I believe a pastor truly following god would not treat me the way I was treated by this man and I am sure that he will respond to this, as he responded to others, stating that I am making false claims and I need to fix the jealousy and hatred in my life and to that I say please find the nearest mirror.
I will post this under Peacock Jewelers as well as the pseudonym Village Jewelers as the same business has two names which I can only assume is to avoid scrutiny this business is facing online.
To this man: I understand there are most likely personal issues going on for why you decided to talk down to me, treat me with disrespect and be rude without reason. I hope you find reason to spread love in this world as you claim to do, as actions speak louder than words.
I hope you do not have to lose a large sale like you lost when I walked out of the door yesterday after being spoken to like I...
