I normally do not take the time to write reviews. I have a background in the foodservice industry and always try to be gracious giving food vendors the benefit of the doubt. This review is necessary. A friend and I made a trip to Nashville and decided to try a local restaurant for dinner. We spent about 30-45 minutes searching the area and reading reviews. Hopdoddy Burger Bar had great reviews and the menu sounded delicious, so we ordered for delivery to our hotel via UberEats. When we received our order, there were several things missing; eating utensils and napkins being a couple things that were pretty important since we ordered salads, a burger bowl, and fried chicken tenders. Apparently, the restaurant didn’t think it was necessary. They also didn’t include the bbq sauce or the french fries that were supposed to come with the chicken tenders. We did, however, receive a “free” order of parmesan truffle fries because the order total was over $40 … even though we really didn’t want them. We asked our hotel for eating utensils and napkins, and they were gracious enough to give us what we needed. We were starving by the time the food arrived so we tried to eat the truffle fries. They were okay. Satisfactory but not great. The food that was supposed to be hot was almost cold to the touch. The chicken tenders were barely lukewarm (at best) and it was only in our possession for about 5-7 minutes. We started eating and immediately realized that everything was spicy and hot — NOT temperature hot — the kind of hot that melts your tastebuds and sets your stomach ablaze! Even the balsamic vinegarette salad dressing was so spicy that I couldn’t taste anything else. The salad dressing was spicy, the dipping sauces that came with the truffle fries (4 different kinds that were indistinguishable in flavor) were all spicy, the burger patty was spicy, and I can’t tell you if the chicken tenders were spicy or not because my tastebuds were disintegrated by the time I tried to eat one. Needless to say, we didn’t finish our meals. In a strange way I am thankful that we couldn’t eat it all because within an hour my poor friend was in the bathroom begging for mercy and a cold towel to replace the toilet paper! We both decided to stay in our room instead of exploring the area because the food was still making it’s presence known to our stomach and intestines. In case you haven’t guessed it by now, I do NOT recommend this restaurant … unless you are already accustomed to digesting...
Read moreI want to give a higher score, but hopdoddy's weak spot is fries.
STRIKE ALL THAT.
I wasn't avoiding Hopdoddy after writing the fry-review, I went back for burgers all the time. But last night, I went in on a super busy Friday evening, just to check in on the fries again. And wow, the Friday night crew is a well-oiled machine. So many friend-groups sharing meals, the whole place was hopping, servers speeding between stations, someone in the kitchen with a giant sack of onions getting ready to chop up more. It was a beehive of activity and everyone was in a good mood.
The line was literally out the door, but people still queued up. Since we were only a party of two, we were seated at the bar, which was also full. I ordered the fries - they have all sorts, parmesan, truffle, etc - just plain fries lightly salted and received a bowl of steaming hot fry perfection within two minutes. I ordered them with mayo, and they had remembered that I wanted mayo.
My usual favorite burger is the El Diablo, but I went for the classic this time. Dining partner enjoyed the Cadillac, skipping the cheese. As we compared our burgers I mentioned that I got my Classic "with cheddar but without the bacon", and the multi-tasking lady bartender overheard me, jumped to assist "I'm sorry, did you want bacon?" I laughed and said no, I ordered it without, thank you. Both burgers were great.
To drink I like the giant frozen chalet of Voodoo Ranger Juicy IPA but also decided to try the old fashioned, since I was sitting at the bar. Surprisingly good with a single square cube.
But the most impressive thing of the evening was how together the kitchen and serving crew was. They were basically doing a synchronized dance in the kitchen getting that many burgers out that quickly. It was like watching a great band being really...
Read moreFrom start to finish, this place delivered an absolutely amazing dining experience. The food was phenomenal, the service was top-notch, and the atmosphere was just plain fun.
Let's talk about that burger! The seasoning was absolutely perfect, creating a flavor explosion with every bite. And whoever came up with the idea of serving the fries as an appetizer is a genius! It was such a smart way to kick off the meal and get those delicious, perfectly crispy fries in front of us right away.
This restaurant truly hit all the right notes! We were blown away by the amazing food, the attentive and friendly service, and the vibrant, fun atmosphere. The star of the show for me was definitely the burger. The seasoning was spot on, elevating a classic to something truly special. But what really impressed me was the brilliant touch of offering the fries as an appetizer. It's such a simple yet genius idea that ensured we could enjoy those perfectly seasoned, crispy fries while we waited for our main course. It's the little things like that which make a dining experience truly unforgettable. More Than Just a Meal: A Culinary Delight! We had such a fantastic time, and it all started with the amazing food! Every dish was a testament to culinary skill, complemented perfectly by the great service and a truly fun atmosphere. The burger, in particular, was a standout. The seasoning was nothing short of perfect, showcasing a masterful blend of flavors. And I have to give major props for the genius idea of serving the fries as an appetizer! It was such a clever and satisfying way to begin our meal, setting the stage for everything delicious that followed. This spot is definitely...
