I had my first solid core class 2 days ago and it was honestly the most traumatizing work out class I’ve ever experienced.
to preface this review: I’m not a pilates girl, I don’t have the fittest body but I don’t mind a challenge, as long as I feel supported and SAFE. that first class was none of that. I went in hoping the instructor would explain the board and the multiple weird contraptions but she glossed over it and quickly adjusted my board for me, which was fine, I knew this was gonna be hard and fast. Then when class started I was doing my best to follow along and there came a point when an exercise was a little too difficult for me so I did my best to do it, but was struggling. The instructor (Jaime) gave me no modifications for any difficult exercises and instead physically pushed me to do the exercise which I almost injured myself by nearly face planting because I couldn’t control the board. Afterwards I was so upset and traumatized, I’m pretty sure I pulled a muscle and I vowed to my partner Id never take solidcore ever again, but he said to give it another shot with a different instructor. So, I come back 2 days later, still sore and traumatized and really unexcited. The instructor ( Evan) really changed my mind about this next class. They explained the board so thoroughly to the new attendees of the class, and they noticed me struggle and helped out with the wires and gave tips and modifications to all the newer people. I was honestly scared of using the board the second time just because of how unsafe I felt the first class, but they really made me feel comfortable this time. It was challenging still, because I was sore and in pain from the last class, but I felt like I had an instructor who cared, which made it enjoyable tbh. I’m not sure if the first instructor was busy with a full class or what but she gave no modifications or support.
Basically, solid core is hard af and having a supportive instructor who takes the time to help you and doesn’t push you to INJURY, makes the whole difference. If I hadn’t switched to another instructor and tried again, I would’ve never tried this workout again. Only giving it a 3 stars for Evan, but if I wrote the review after my first session, it was a 1 star lol.
And also, this place should have more intro classes for everyone so newer attendees can take that intro class first before they dive into the proper sessions, to familiarize themselves with the form and the board. most yoga and pilates studios have frequent intro sessions and require you to take them first before any other session*. Solidcore should REQUIRE that, like this is pilates on crack, why are you letting people take whatever class before a proper intro?
yes I know they offer intro sessions but they only recommend you take them, and on top of that they have 3 intro sessions a week that are all in the middle of the day, which is when most of us are either at work or busy. so none of the intro sessions worked for my schedule. They should have intro sessions that are shorter and maybe in the mornings or evenings when most people are able to come...
Read moreI have loved solidcore for years but the experience I had in this studio felt worthy of sharing. I took a class on Oct 8th at 3:30 pm with trainer Evan H (won’t put last name for privacy purposes).
I understand solidcore is a tough class and the goal is to push yourself/reach muscle failure etc. But there should not be unnecessary pressure to push ourselves to the point of collapsing and injury. Typically trainers say “we don’t take breaks but if you need to you can take a few seconds to recover at any point”. During this class, Evan was beyond rude and degrading any time I took a 5-10 second pause during the class. He ridiculed me on his mic for “not keeping up” and not holding the pose the entire time.
At one point, I was shaking during a plank and he came over and pushed the reformer out farther (increasing difficulty of the move) and my lower back gave out and I collapsed back. It was only by the grace of God my lower back didn’t tear. This trainer saw I was at my maximum - giving 100% - and intentionally compromised me within an inch of injury.
Anyone who has taken solidcore more than once knows it’s not easy. I’ve taken dozens of classes, and know what I’m signing up for. But I have never felt so uncomfortable in a class and had to share...
Read moreThe instructor was very rude. There was an issue with my ClassPass account, which I wasn’t aware of. I booked a Solidcore class for grand central but the calendar invite added the wrong location (Chelsea). Which led me to go to the wrong Solidcore location. Mid class she came to me with her microphone very loud telling me that I need to leave, she was acting as if I was trying to steal a workout class or something . (Don’t get me wrong, I understand that I may need to leave if I’m not on the list - since I ended up being in the wrong Solidcore location anyway) but It’s the way she handled it. She was very rude. She kept saying “you need to leave, I don’t know, you need to leave” She didn’t even try to help me figure out what happened. She handled the situation very badly but the lady at the frontdesk was able to help me find the issue of the wrong location on the app. Honestly I may not even get a Solidcore membership anymore cuz of...
