AD Hair Studio — Local services in New York

This was my 2nd time at this salon, wanting to go back here for many reasons, besides having another appt nearby. I had my hair colored and cut by two different stylists, probably because of the time I wanted the appt, they explained by phone in advance that I'd have to see Marie (spelling?) for the color and Nicki for the cut.

The one-process color was done first which went very well, I really like Marie's personality and professionalism and they had even apparently kept my last color info from a year ago so I didn't have any trouble with that experience, the color came out very natural looking and awesome.

On the other hand, the cut turned out to be a hot mess... I had a picture of what I wanted done, which was a layered bob and my hair was very long and grown-out from a 4-month old layered bob. So I was very clear on how much I wanted taken off though I had less of the length cut which we agreed on. But she argued with me from the start that I had to keep my layers longer than I wanted to for no good reason. And with the bangs she did not trim them as much as I wanted either though I repeatedly told her to take off more. She said she would go by the picture and she said she appreciated my being so specific about what I wanted. But in the end she had really just given me a trim all around and for $95 I was really disappointed in the result because I did not want just a trim. She did what I wanted when blow drying it but she did not check when it was dry to make sure all was even with the length or sides. When I got home I had to trim parts of everything myself. Not only that but I found myself trimming my bangs a few days later another 1" or so and have been continually trimming the bangs since the appt. She was a nice woman who supposedly knows how to cut hair but she didn't really listen to me at all.

I like this salon for the most part and some of the stylists but I guess it just depends who you end up having so I would be careful about only requesting certain stylists...

You will not find an all around better hair experience than at AD Hair Studio. First things first - Covid safety precautions. Only scheduled appointments are allowed in the salon and even those will be temperature checked before being allowed to enter. They require a contact tracing form to be completed and will offer you your own disposable mask and hand sanitizer to use while in the salon. They have multiple plexiglass partitions and keep ample space between all stations. Further to this every. single. surface is sanitized after a client comes into contact with it. The staff wear masks and gloves the entire day. Ok, now the fun stuff! Alice (one of the owners) is a master colorist and has trained her entire staff. Her industry and product knowledge is truly unmatched. Over the many years I’ve been coming to AD Hair Studio they have taken my hair on a journey and it’s always remained healthy - even during and after two pregnancies! I never feel uneasy about going there as I have every confidence in their abilities. They know hair so well and are honest with their clients about the condition of their hair. If a requested procedure will compromise the health of someone’s hair, they will work with their client on devising alternative options. Even when my hair felt unfix-able they were able to figure out a way to make it better and guide me on how to help it regain what it lost. COVID/Safty Precautions:

It is clear that the women at AD Hair Studio are taking COVID precautions seriously.

1. Upon arrival you will now have to ring a doorbell to be let in
2. When greeted at the door, a temperature check and contact tracing form will need to be completed before you can enter the salon
3. Hand sanitizer is readily available, personal hand sanitizers and masks are provided
4. Pen cup indicates which pens are sanitized and which pens are "dirty"
5. Plexiglass partitions between all stations and register area
6. Each station is sanitized between clients
7. The staff all wear masks properly covering their noses and mouths

Services: I have been going to AD Hair for four years and it has consistently been a class act! Alice and her staff have greeted me by name and welcomed me in. Alice listens, hears, and understands her clients' needs and gives professional recommendations when asked or if it is needed. Alice is a master colorist and it shows with the care and detail she takes when tending to my hair. I came to Alice with over-processed hair and she guided me through my hair journey resulting in healthy hair with luster, a stylish cut, and she always nails the color.
