I own a king size avocado mattress for 3 years now and wanted to change my child's toddler bed to a twin size bed.
I bought the organic twin mattress for my child who is 5 and from the day it came the mattress had a horrible smell. I contacted customer service and they told me that this rarely happens and told me some steps that might get rid of the smell. I did all the steps and left the bed out for about a month. I put a bed sheet over it and my child slept on it for about 3 days and she got these rashes on her back.
When I emailed Avocado regarding this situation, they said I can return it for a fee. I didn't want to pay the fee since this wasn't my fault and it was the bed that caused the problem. I was really frustrated I had to go through this process and emailing back and forth was very energy and time consuming. (Even writing this review, I usually don't write reviews but I had to for this one.)
They just told me that "smell" wasn't covered in their warranty and just told me to bring my child to the doctor.
Before all this happened, my sister also ordered her mattress from avocado (she lives with me) since I was telling her how comfortable and nice my current king sized mattress is. Hers didn't have any smell to it and she uses it fine.
Since they advertise that their mattress is organic and non-toxic I don't know why some mattresses are made like this. They just said it is the natural material used to make the bed. But it doesn't make sense since some have the toxic smell that steeps onto the bedsheets, blanket, and the pillow. Currently I am just waiting to return the bed and don't want to spend the extra fee since all the problem was caused by the mattress and not from us.

I’ve wanted an organic mattress for years but put it off because it seemed like a monumental task. I also hate that you can’t try most before buying. Naturpedic was the other brand I considered but ultimately wanted to go in a store and speak to someone and I’m so glad we did. You just can’t pick blindly and have it delivered and hope it’s comfortable. Even if they assure pickup if you don’t like it - that’s a monumental task and hassle.
We ended up buying the king size luxury plush mattress in standard (no pillow top). It is a medium firmness and it’s very thick and solid. It’s a beautiful crafted mattress and you understand why you pay more for it.
Umberto is great because you can tell he knows all the details, all the features and benefits, but lays them out as you want in real life. He also was upfront and warned me it takes several months for the mattress to soften to the level of the showroom version which was good to know since I hadn’t considered that. I spent a decent amount on a mattress and a few other things and it felt better that there was someone I trusted and had built a connection with that I could just email.
Go visit- ask for him and let him guide you, that way you don’t have to spend ages researching and wondering! Work cut down!

Read moreI traveled to the store in NYC to try out the mattresses beforehand. I placed my order in the store on 3/25/24. I received a confirmation email, but then never received any follow up emails about shipment, although I had been told that it would likely be only a few weeks. I tried to call the number listed on google several times and was unable to get through to anyone (endless phone trees).
Today, on 4/19/24-- almost a month after my initial purchase-- I called them and was told that due to an internal error, my order was marked as shipped at the time that it was purchased. The woman on the phone said that she would reach out to try to expedite my order. When I asked how long that would take, she told me that actually they were experiencing delays in the material for the type of mattress that I ordered, and that it would take another 3 weeks to process my order at best. She didn't offer any kind of sympathy gift or apology for a timeframe that will likely be longer than 2 months from my purchase date. I said that I would like to cancel the order. Instead of processing that for me right away, she said that it would take up to 5 business days for someone from the company to look into my request.
