I came in with high expectations and Rezdora didn’t live up to them. I expected more from a Michelin-star in terms of both the service & the food. I would say honestly the food and service were good, but not great. I’vehad better meals lately that I was way more excited about.
Two BIG areas for improvement:
Everything we had was over-salted. And salt seemed to be the seasoning 🧂 of choice. No subtle/interesting flavors. Even though my dish had fresh truffles on it. And we told the server & he offered to take it back, but we felt terrible wasting food Bc we all know it was going to be thrown out. It was edible so we ate it, but just wanted him and the chef to be aware.
Service. While individuals were all perfectly friendly, the overall customer service experience wasn’t top tier. Specifically: A) when someone says al the food is over-salted, maybe send them a dessert or a side compliments of the chef? B) I ordered a macchiato & my dining companion ordered a latte. Her latte arrived and I figured mine was coming up. Desert came and went (it was the best part of the meal to be honest). I asked for the check and to please make sure they took the macchiato off since it never arrived. I believe we were at the end of our dessert at that point. Again, they were like “OK”. What about bringing it to me anyway & just not Charging me?
It’s the little things like that don’t cost the restaurant much that elevates a restaurant from good to great (read my review for Il Florista).
As far as details of what we ate. I dont eat meat so my appetizer options were limited. I could really only have a salad. The cacio pepe salad was recommended and we tried it and honestly it was good but there was so much so many crunchy pieces of pepper of varying textures I didn’t know if there was sand in the Romain or if it’s just pepper I was crunching I had the Ravioli dish with the yolk inside of it which I’ve been really excited to try. The egg is really good I must say you can tell it’s from a happy chicken living on a nice farm. As mentioned before, didn’t really get much of a truffle flavor, it was delicious of course because there was cheese involved and pasta, but again overly salted. My Dining companion ordered the pasta - it’s two kind of pasta is one green and one regular looking with the sausage sauce to it which she thought was good but again overly salted We Had the seasonal greens which were prepared very nicely but again too much salt. We were most happy with a dessert which was actually quite delicious. It was a very light olive oil cake with some sort of a sauce on top with ice cream that came with a drizzle of olive oil which I must say is an amazing combination. We were disappointed that one of the desserts we wanted to try was not available, it was the “Nonna” dessert something with lemon.
Again, for the price ($100+ for lunch) and small portion sizes (not to mention the ⭐️), and Qualty of service - there are better choices. Don’t plan...
Read moreMy mother and I had wanted to go to the restaurant and made reservations months ago for our New York trip. We arrived a little early but were seated after a small wait, so that was nice. It was all the way in the back however, and it was extremely loud back there. Perhaps some individuals prefer it that way, but it made talking incredibly difficult, and although the restaurant itself is open concept, it feels squished. But that’s just New York.
Maybe people prefer the dark, candle lit dinner, but my mother’s eyes aren’t what they used to be, and the menus we had had extremely small text. She couldn’t see it so she had to pull the menu up on her phone. This is fine. All this, is just preference at this point or not accounting for a disability.
The service was just… fine. The gentleman waiting on our table had informed us that the kitchen was closing soon. We had gotten there 10 minutes early and seated 5 minutes early. Our reservation was at 9:45, the restaurant closes at 10:30. Other people were getting sat long after we put our orders in. Even this, I didn’t mind. It felt as if he was telling us we could not order after appetizers, that we had to make a decision right now, rushing. So we did. This is New York, money is time, and time is money.
Our food arrived, the stracciatella, grandma emilie, beef cheek, scallops, and beets. Our antipasto and primi were okay. And that’s just it. They were “just okay”. I’ve had better. But the beef cheek and scallops were probably the worst. My mother had the cheek and I had the scallops. She described it as boring and mostly like pot roast on a Sunday, and if you’re into that, awesome. Even the polenta wasn’t that great. I also had some parts, and yes it was boring. But perhaps the worst dish was the scallops. They were inconsistent. Some were soft and others rubbery, one too salty or one didn’t have enough. I only finished it because I didn’t want to be rude. I’m from the Midwest, but I’ve had better scallops. I don’t even live near an ocean, but I’ve had better, which is a shame for the price point. I would even go so far as to say it was gross and that I would never suggest ordering it off the menu. The beets were mid.
Maybe we should’ve gotten the pasta, maybe then as an Italian restaurant it could’ve shown off its true colors, done a better job at presenting itself. The best part of the whole night were the cocktails. They were delicious. I do not think this place deserves a Michelin star rating, and it should be reviewed. I’ve had better at higher and lower price points. It was a shame, we didn’t even take the food to go, which is unheard of in...
Read moreWe had an amazing experience at brunch. We were a party of six and ordered a wide variety of dishes to share. Sadly, some of their famous dishes aren’t included in the brunch menu, such as “Grandma Walking Through Forest in Emilia.” They have very vide selections of wines and very balanced cocktails , we tried one of their skin contact wines , mezcal espresso martini and blanc Negroni, my favorite was their Negroni, the out of the menu espresso martini was amazing as well.
For appetizers, we had the Mortazza and Insalata Estiva con Cantalupo.
For pastas, we ordered: • Verde on Verde on Verde • Uovo Raviolo • Mezzelune con Tonno Affumicato • Modenese Vacationing in Rome
From the mains, we tried the Steak and Eggs (Carne e Uova), Frittata del Bosco, and the showstopper Bistecca per Due — a 30 oz, 60-day dry-aged bone-in ribeye. The steak comes with two sides; we chose the Warm Seasonal Greens and Carote Quattro Modi.
The cantaloupe salad was refreshing and summery, while the Mortazza was delicious, served with focaccia that was both crispy and fluffy.
All the pastas were excellent, but our favorite by far was the Uovo Raviolo — a perfectly cooked egg with cheese inside, topped with black truffles and served with brown butter and mushrooms. It was beautifully balanced, and we could have easily eaten a few more of them. The Verde on Verde on Verde was bright and fresh, like a very unique pesto, though a touch under-salted. The Modenese Vacationing in Rome reminded us of a refined carbonara, and it was outstanding. Our least favorite was the smoked tuna pasta, which felt a bit one-note, though still well executed and tasty.
The absolute star of the entire brunch was the dry-aged ribeye. Cooked to perfection, with mushrooms and a salt rub that gave it incredible depth and texture, it was easily one of the best bone-in ribeyes I’ve ever had.
The Steak and Eggs, however, was a bit of a letdown — the portion felt small, and the steak itself wasn’t as flavorful or tender.
For the dessert we ordered the olive oil cake and the pistachios four ways and both dessert were really tasty.
Overall, unlike some reviews mentioning that the food is too salty, we found most dishes perfectly seasoned, with one or two even slightly under-seasoned. The service was excellent — attentive yet relaxed — and the pacing of the courses felt well spaced out. Portions lean small, but the quality and flavor more than make up for it.
I was between 4 and 5 stars for this review but the dry aged steak was so good , that I had to give it...
